Internet Scam 7 7 2011
As a service and to protect the Residents of the Village of Ridgewood, the Ridgewood Police will post helpful hints regarding safe online usage.

A scam that we see quite often time and time again is one that requests money from an unsuspecting party.  This type of scam is called “phishing”.  This means that the suspect sends hundreds, if not thousands, of emails in order to hopefully trick a party into sending money back. Here is a recently received e-mail that we have seen, however please remember that the email could be a variation of this, it does not have to be identical.  Be very careful of emails that ask for personal information and for you to send money.  Do not reply to these emails or call the phone number provided.

Doherty, Kyrillos set up ‘classic’ GOP primary fight to challenge U.S. Sen. Menendez

There are no campaign signs, no television ads, no babies to kiss. But next year’s U.S. Senate race is quietly shaping up, and could result in a drawn-out Republican primary.

State Sens. Joseph Kyrillos and Michael Doherty are jockeying to be the Republicans’ choice to tangle with U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, a Hudson County Democrat with a knack for raising money and winning elections.  (Megerian, The Star-Ledger)

Growth in solar still strong in New Jersey

There’s been a lot of debate over the future of New Jersey’s growing solar market in recent weeks, but the latest results of a utility-led solar installation program may put to rest concerns that its best days are behind it.
The program, involving utility-sponsored solar installations financed by long-term contracts with customers, locked in deals to develop 21 megawatts of solar capacity. More contractors bid to participate in the program than ever before in a solicitation held last month.  (Johnson, NJ Spotlight)

Time runs out to use school aid windfall for property tax relief

When Gov. Chris Christie last week detailed his final state aid figures for 2011-2012, they included an extra $150 million for suburban school districts — money the districts were encouraged to use for property tax relief.
The governor should have added, “And hurry.”

In a follow-up memo late last week, the administration indicated that districts would need to move by tomorrow if they wanted to add the extra money to next year’s tax levy. Doing so would require local boards to meet beforehand, with 48 hours notice.  (Mooney, NJ Spotlight)

>State Pensions to strain revenues for state

>State Pensions to strain revenues for state

New Jersey’s new pension reform will save state and local governments millions of dollars now, and billions of dollars over the ensuing decades.

But then there is the hard part: actually paying the pension contributions for nearly 800,000 state government employees and retirees.

Although New Jersey will have to pay less than it would have without the changes, state revenues still must grow by at least 3 percent a year simply to cover the added costs for increasing payments, a Gannett State Bureau analysis shows.  (Method, Gannett)

LONG BEACH (CBS) — Bike vs. Plane? It should be obvious to anyone who would win that contest.

Well, not so fast!

Some bloggers, hearing about JetBlue’s $4 fare from Burbank to Long Beach decided to lay down a challenge and see if some bike riders could beat the airline in a cross town race.

A cycle group knows as the Wolfpack Hustle set off just before 11 a.m. Saturday.

A blogger also left his home, in Burbank, about the same time.

Obama’s Senior Moment: ‘I’ll be turning 50 in a week.’
July 15, 2011 3:38 PM

Actually…he’ll be turning 50 in three weeks. His birthday is August 4, two days after the debt ceiling deadline. Senior moment?

He messed up Malia’s birthday, too, calling her 13 when she was at the time 12 and still days away from becoming a teenager.

Elderly and disabled Medicaid patients and the people who care for them are facing some of the biggest changes in the history of the government insurance program as a result of the new state budget.

Nearly all must choose a Medicaid HMO quickly, a shift in the way their health care has been managed that is causing uncertainty and anxiety.

Sook Pastry the taste test

Sook Pastry a European style cafe that opened about four months ago at 24 South Broad Street. I know it took awhile but I finally got there. They seem to have found their groove already with their offerings of sandwiches, salads, crepes, Illy coffees which is a home run in my book and of coarse loads of delicious PASTRIES!

One is overwhelmed by the subtle smell of fresh cooked pastries as soon as you walk in The shelves are packed with a perfectly balanced color pallet of beautiful strawberry, chocolate and lemon delights just begging to be brought home.

I ordered a large cappuccino which was delicious not too hot or too cold and just the right amount of foam .After some though I settled on a Napoleon which was very creamy ,and not too sweet with a cake style crust . It was spot on . Other patrons told em they were very big fans of the multicolored Macarons.

The shop is very clean with a modern decor yet still very comfortable. Service was excellent and the staff was very friendly . They also have some very impressive looking cakes which would take any dinner party over the top for desert. My suggestion to defiantly give it a try .

Bucky Pizzarelli & Friends will be featured on Thursday, July 21.

John “Bucky” Pizzarelli is one of the best known 7-string players alive.

Pizzarelli has been playing at the Shell every year since 1963 when he moved to Saddle River. His two uncles played banjos at the Shell and Pizzarelli went to listen to them. When they called him to perform he said “yes.”

He began his professional career at 17 when he joined the Vaughn Monroe Band in 1943. Then he went into the service for two years during World War II returning to the Vaughn Monroe Band for five years. After that Pizzarelli went to New York City and became a staff musician at NBC and played the Kate Smith Show. He stayed in New York City doing studio work – mostly recording sessions and played with Benny Goodman, going to Europe on tours four times. Pizzarelli also did the Tonight Show with Skitch Henderson and Doc Severensen while Johnny Carson was host. CDs with Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney and Frank Sinatra followed.

His awards include ASCAP Jazz Wall of Fame Induction, June 2005, and Mac Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002. Pizzarelli has performed at the White House, two performances for President Ronald Reagan and one for President Bill Clinton, and played a private birthday party for Pat Nixon at the Nixon home. His concert at Rutgers University in New Brunswick featuring Bucky, Les Paul, Tal Farlow and Bucky’s son John was aired on New Jersey’s PBS station as part of their three part New Jersey Summerfare Series.

Bucky plays a Benedetto Bucky Pizzarelli Signature 7 string guitar, the additional string providing him with a bass line during performances.

Pet Survey : Stop aggravating law abiding citizens!!

The man who came to my door made a snide comment about my dogs barking AFTER HE banged on the door. I immediately told him that I have three dogs and that they were all licensed. I offered to show him the paperwork but he did not want to see it. Instead he immediately began to ask the same questions I answered when I applied for the licenses.

When I said the town already has this info, he told me “That’s what I was told to do”. I told him to get the info from the Health Department records. The Health Department should simply print out this info from their database for the state and canvass only those homes with which they have no contact. Stop aggravating law abiding citizens!!
