Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev may have murdered his ‘only American friend’ in an unsolved triple killing two years ago, it emerged today.

Brendan Mess had his ‘throat slit’ alongside two other men in a Massachusetts apartment in 2011 in what police described as a ‘very graphic crime scene’.

Former associates of the Chechan immigrant didn’t initially suspect him of carrying out the gruesome attack, but thought it was strange he didn’t attend his friend’s funeral.

Now one man who knew Tamerlan through the gym where they trained said some of their social circle ‘without even speaking about it beforehand have all been thinking’ he could be involved.

Internet Sales Tax Is a State Money Grab

Internet Sales Tax Is a State Money Grab
Amy Payne
April 22, 2013

Why are states so eager to collect taxes on Internet sales?

In short, because they could grab money from other states.

Heritage legal expert David Addington lays it out:

Like the money-hungry federal government, many state governments have financial and political interests in getting their hands on more and more money to grow their governments. It is not surprising that many of those state governments find out-of-state businesses to be lucrative and politically easy targets for tax legislation.

Addington explains how this would work. Take, for example, a company whose workforce and warehouses are in New Hampshire. This company has no contacts with Illinois other than taking remote sales orders over the Internet.

The Internet sales tax proposal would allow Illinois politicians to use the New Hampshire company as their tax collector. The New Hampshire company would have to collect Illinois sales tax on its remote sales to Illinois residents and send the taxes to the Illinois state government.

As The Wall Street Journal puts it, “Small online sellers will therefore have to comply with tax laws created by distant governments in which they have no representation, and in places where they consume no local services.”

Who’s hurt?

Consumers nationwide could be hit with higher prices.
Internet companies, which would be forced to collect taxes for thousands of jurisdictions.

Who’s helped?

State politicians, who find it politically easy to impose tax collection duties on out-of-state businesses that have no say on taxes or tax procedures in that state.
States collecting new tax revenue to grow their governments.

The Senate is likely voting today on this proposal. As Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) put it, “what this is about is officials in cash-strapped states across the country looking for new ways to plug their budget holes.”

And because Congress would be allowing states to grab from other states, Addington notes that “all the politicians get to hide from the consequences of their own tax decisions.”

The bottom line: “Less money in the pockets of people, more money for big government.”

Traffic solutions debated at Ridge School in Ridgewood

May’s Walk to School Month

Traffic solutions debated at Ridge School in Ridgewood

The Ridgewood News

A new traffic pattern proposed for Ridge School has earned the support of several village officials and professionals, but parents and school safety representatives suggest the change will do more harm than good.

The Ridgewood Council will consider an ordinance next month that, if approved, will prohibit left turns from eastbound West Ridgewood Avenue into the Ridge School driveway. The ordinance would make the turn illegal during the peak student drop-off and pick-up hours, from 8 to 9 a.m. and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on school days.

Parents have called for traffic changes because current conditions have become too dangerous for students and all motorists. In addition, many parents have complained about the number of traffic tickets issued by the Ridgewood Police Department.

Interview with Chryssoula Katsikoudi Director of International Relations and Middle Eastern Affairs at GSFC

Interview with Chryssoula Katsikoudi Director of International Relations and Middle Eastern Affairs at GSFC

The Ridgewood blog spoke with Chryssoula Katsikoudi Director of International Relations and Middle Eastern Affairs Geostrategic Forecasting Cooperation – (GSFC) to get her take on the Boston Bombers

TRB : We wanted to get you take on the Boston Bombers

Chryssoula , Yes, I have lot’s of thoughts on the Boston Bombers. First, the one thing that bothers me the most is this feeling I have that something is not right with this whole story. After careful research of the two suspects, I find it very, very hard to believe that someone like the younger Brother, who seemed so normal, grew up in the States, wasn’t really that religious, and after looking at his twitter account; that he would suddenly turn within the last two years into a terrorist, or some radical “jihadist.”

Chryssoula , I do believe that his brother brainwashed him, after his trip to Russia, and I am also highly convinced the Russians are somehow involved in this.

Chryssoula, After the attacks, I have done a lot of research on Chechens, their religion, and their resistance against Russia; Chechens are Sufi Muslims…Sufism is not necessarily associated with radical Islam, it is a more spiritual, and peaceful version of Islam…

Chryssoula , I also do not believe these attacks were religious related…some form of “jihad” like so many now say…furthermore, what I found really interesting, was that a couple days before the bombings occurred, the Boston Globe had reported on their Twitter account that Boston Police or officials were going to have the bomb squad out practicing and having detonations going on near the Library which was right at the finish line…

Chryssoula , I am not saying that the suspects are completely innocent, but until the younger one confesses or there is hard core evidence that he was the one who placed the bag with the explosives on the ground; I believe there is more to this story than we know. After all, we had NEVER had an incident were Chechens had any reason to attack the US JUST because they’re Muslim? Sounds a little off to me. Or maybe I’m just all into conspiracies 🙂

TRB : Were not the Chechen Rebels  the group that took over a Russian school under the guidance of al Quada ? Did not they follow the al- Quada play book? I do agree with you that the younger brother at lest not on face value appears not to fit any profile at all , but what was the influence of his older brother and it seems like they had NO parental guidance what so ever .

Chryssoula , Yes, you are right about the school take over, however, whether they were following the al-Qaida play book or not, has not been determined 100%, it was assumed that they were. Chechens after the Russian resistance had found their faith in Islam again after many centuries, and have turned back to their religious roots.

Chryssoula , But, like I said, they are Sufi Muslims…I don’t see Sufi Muslims be radical towards the US, at least not in the last three decades. Therefore, I do believe they have been brainwashed, at least the older brother, when he visited Russian a year before that.

Chryssoula , Chechens don’t have any beef with the US, at least not on religious grounds. I could see them doing an incident like this in Russia…but I don’t know..I don’t see a motive.

Saudi National Questioned in Boston Attack was on Terror Watch List

Saudi National Questioned in Boston Attack was on Terror Watch List
Todd Starnes

The Saudi national who was initially detained and then ruled out as a suspect in the Boston Marathon terrorist attack had been flagged on a terror watch list and was granted a student visa without being properly vetted, sources have told me.

A source close to the investigation revealed that the Saudi national had been deemed inadmissible under the section of the Immigration and Nationality Act which declares ineligible for a visa – any alien who is engaged in or is likely to engage after entry – in terrorist activity.

At least two additional sources have confirmed to me that the Saudi national is set to be deported as early as this week, contrary to statements made by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

The House Homeland Security Committee is now requesting a classified briefing with Napolitano to get to the bottom of the issue, according to an exclusive report from The Blaze.

Napolitano denied anyone was being deported in a heated exchange Thursday with Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) during a House hearing.

Ira Einhorn, Earth Day’s Dirty Secret

Ira Einhorn, Earth Day’s Dirty Secret
By Ken Anderson Apr 22, 2006  Magic City Morning Star

On this, the 36th anniversary of Earth Day, it is only fitting to speak of one of its founders, Ira Einhorn.

You won’t find Ira Einhorn’s name listed in any of the Earth Day promotional literature, as the organizers have taken great pains to distance themselves from this man, at least since he became better known for composting his girlfriend in a trunk in his closet for a couple of years in the late 1970s.

Earth Day organizers and publicists don’t want to have anything to do with Ira these days. Since he was convicted of murder, he hasn’t been very useful to them. But that wasn’t always the case. In 1970, during the first Earth Day event, which was televised throughout the globe, Ira Einhorn was on stage as master of ceremonies.

Or so he claims, and it seems likely that he was.

A friend and contemporary of Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin, and acquaintance of authors Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsburg, Timothy Leary, Alvin Toffler, and Isaac Asimov, Einhorn held the floor for a half hour, during the first Earth Day celebration, in Philadelphia, kissing Edmund Muskie on the lips before surrendering the microphone to the Senator from Maine. There is no evidence that Muskie rejected his advances, or that anyone associated with the event had ever voiced any disagreement with Einhorn’s place as a key organizer until after his arrest for the murder of Holly Maddux.

Ridgewood Elks Club 20th Annual Charity Beefsteak

Ridgewood Elks Club 20th Annual Charity Beefsteak
Catherine Viggiano,
Beefsteak Chair 2013

Ridgewood NJ, For almost 20 years we have been holding a charity Beefsteak Dinner/Tricky Tray Auction at the Ridgewood Elks Lodge to raise money for our charity account so we may contribute to such organizations as Elks Camp Moore and the Children’s Therapy Center in Fair Lawn/Midland Park. We also contribute to the Veteran’s Home in Paramus and The Army of Hope. The Army of Hope is an Elks charity whose mission is to assist Wounded Warriors and families of Fallen Heroes. The donations we receive from local merchants are raffled off at the dinner and monies raised through our ad journal directly benefit our charities.

The New Jersey State Elks Special Children’s Committee maintains a summer camp in Haskell, Elks Camp Moore (a.k.a. “The Miracle on the Mountain”), that averages 700 campers ages 7-18 per season. The camp is totally setup for children with special needs including their swimming pool, campfire area, play areas, and arts & crafts area. All the children have their own counselor to help them at the camp. Each camper is sponsored by local Elks lodges with no cost to the families and no child is ever turned away. Camp Moore’s primary function is to enable children to use and further develop recreational, social and leisure skills through activities presented in a positive, enjoyable, and appropriate manner and in a real life situation. This year, through the kindness of businesses such as yours, Ridgewood Lodge #1455 is able to again send eight children and also make a generous donation to the camp
ensuring these kids a fun-filled week away from their normal routine.

The Children’s Therapy Center provides educational and therapeutic services for children with developmental disabilities. The Center was incorporated as the Cerebral Palsy Center of Bergen County, NJ, on March 29, 1950. It was created as a center for children with Cerebral Palsy but over the past 60 years it has grown to provide creative education and advanced therapies to children with many different types of disabilities – children who face physical, medical and developmental challenges. Between their two facilities, the Fair Lawn Campus serves children 18 months through 6 years of age and the Upper School at Midland Park serves children ages 7 through 13 years of age.

Your support in our efforts to help these charities is greatly appreciated and will be noted at the dinner taking place on Saturday April 27, 2013 at the Lodge. If you have any questions feel free to contact me by e-mail at gohomekate@aol.com. Those of you who would like to attend this festive event can contact the Lodge directly at 201-652-1100. We look forward to your assistance with the knowledge that in a direct way you are helping to bring a smile to the faces of special needs children and helping us to achieve our goals.

Gun Control Group host rally in Ridgewood , invites stereo typing and criticism
April 22,2013
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, Proponents of gun control came to the Christ Episcopal Church in Ridgewood Sunday night ,in an event was called the “Stand up for Gun Sanity” , organized by the Bergen County Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence asking supporters to lobby their legislators to support a package of bills that would make New Jersey’s gun laws even more strict.

The Bergen County Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence was formed in response to the shooting in Newtown, Conn., to promote gun control legislation in New Jersey.

The event featured many prominent  Democratic politicians including Rep. Bill Pascrell, Senate majority leader Loretta Weinberg and Sen. Robert Gordon.

While we applaud the noble goals of the coalition, the holding an anti gun violence event in low gun violence Ridgewood seemed to invite all the stereo type criticism being leveled at these groups across the country .

Why is it that it took the killing of a bunch of “white” kids in  suburbia to get politicians all geared up for gun control when the simply facts are according to the Children’s Defense Fund  “The top cause of death for black teens ages 15 to 19 was gun homicide and most of these homicides are gang related.Noon of the proposed legislation does anything to thwart gang violence or even address it.

Rep. Bill Pascrell should be keenly aware of this given the neighborhood he claims to represent . So why did it take the killing of dare we say “rich white kids” , for him to step up? We would suggest looking for wealthy campaign donors may have played a factor .

The next major significant criticism is that Connecticut already has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and none of the proposed changes would have stopped the events in Newtown. Looks at Chicago with some of the strictest gun laws on the books having over 5,000 people killed due to gun violence.

Bad news for politicians is according to a recent Gallup Poll only 4% of Americans think gun control is the most Important Issue , The issue for most Americans , not politicians and media is the ECONOMY .

Toddlers becoming so addicted to iPads they require therapy

Children as young as four are becoming so addicted to smartphones and iPads that they require psychological treatment.

By Victoria Ward

4:29PM BST 21 Apr 2013

Experts have warned that parents who allow babies and toddlers to access tablet computers for several hours a day are in danger of causing “dangerous” long term effects.

The youngest known patient being treated in the UK is a four-year-old girl from the South East.

Her parents enrolled her for compulsive behaviour therapy after she became increasingly “distressed and inconsolable” when the iPad was taken away from her.

Her use of the device had escalated over the course of a year and she had become addicted to using it up for to four hours a day.

Dr Richard Graham, who launched the UK’s first technology addiction programme three years ago, said he believed there were many more addicts of her age.

Andrew Cuomo connects climate change and bombing
Posted on April 19, 2013 by Anthony Watts

Oh jeez, the stupid, it burns like thermite.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo connects the Boston terrorist bombing and climate change as the “new normal”:

“It’s a terrible situation in Boston. And, unfortunately, … one gets the sense that this is more reflective of the ‘new normal,’ if you will,” he explained. “So much of society is changing so rapidly. We talk about a ‘new normal’ when it comes t0 climate change and adjusting to a change in the weather patterns. ‘New normal’ when it comes to public security in a post-9/11 world. Where these random acts of violence, which at one time were implausible, now seem all-too-frequent.”

Carbon tax to keep U.S. safe from terrorism?! NYT’s Friedman urges carbon tax to fix America post Boston Terror!

NYT’s Tom Friedman: ‘UNTIL we fully understand what turned two brothers who allegedly perpetrated the Boston Marathon bombings into murderers, it is hard to make any policy recommendation other than this: We need to redouble our efforts to make America stronger and healthier so it remains a vibrant counterexample to whatever bigoted ideology may have gripped these young men…So what to do?…The best place to start is with a carbon tax’

More North Jersey towns follow Ridgewood ‘s lead and invest in lightning detection systems

The Record

Lightning strikes are “a very real danger that people need to be aware of,” says Westwood Mayor John Birkner.

Birkner has been researching lightning detection systems for his town, which is looking to join the growing number of New Jersey communities that already have such systems in place, sounding alarms when dangerous storms are near.

Last year 28 people nationwide were killed by lightning, including three in New Jersey, the second highest number for any state, data show. One lightning victim was a Haworth man struck and killed as he watched his grandson play soccer in Demarest. The other two died on the beach in separate incidents at the Jersey Shore.

In 2006, the previous year New Jersey had three lightning deaths, two were teenagers killed on a soccer field in Montvale.

Detection systems monitor lightning strikes and warn the public when potentially dangerous storms fall within a certain radius of the area. The system typically sets off alarms that have been installed at fields and playgrounds, warning the public to leave those open areas. The system also gives an all-clear signal when the danger has passed.

Cresskill recently installed a lightning detection system, Tenafly is seeking bids for a system for its municipal and school fields, and Westwood is considering a joint purchase of a system with Emerson and Washington Township.

A consortium of eight schools and seven towns in the Northern Valley is solidifying plans for a cooperative purchase of a $200,000 lightning detection system.

Communities including Wayne, Rutherford, Ridgefield, Dumont, Ridgewood and Ho-Ho-Kus already have systems in place.

Readers say Bigger trucks, more damage to infrastructure, more problems

The cubic yards being hauled vs. the weight of the vehicles was/is a joke. Any fifth grader in the audience could have figured that out. Really nothing more than insulting the intelligence of the PB, and those opposed to this project.(Actually, even if you are for it you had to at least say to yourself : Does this guy really believe these people are going to buy this? )

The point on the size of the trucks was that you can reduce number of truck trips by using larger trucks (15cy vs. 10cy is already a 33% reduction) and 15cy trucks weigh a heck of a lot more than 10cy trucks and my cause more impact to the road surface and underlying infrastructure.

Most earth moving trucks in No. NJ are 10 cy. I’d question the availability of the 15cy trucks just to begin with. Vallay says there going to use 15cy trucks but what stops their contractor from using 10 cy trucks (which are more readily available) and which INCREASE the number of truck trips 33%??

I’m just sayin’

I agree, but the emphasis was being put on the cubic yards and the reduction in trips when it should have been the weight and the number of trips. Bigger trucks, more problems.

We are on the same page. I just hope the PB is…

agree completely. Bigger trucks, more damage to infrastructure, can’t see kids, etc.

Let’s keep pointing out the flaws in Valley plan and maybe we will prevail.
