Ridgewood NJ, exciting changes are on the horizon for Ridgewood’s Veterans Field as new LED lighting takes center stage. The state-of-the-art lighting system, installed as part of a $700,000 project, promises to elevate athletic experiences at the park. This spring, athletes will get their first opportunity to test the upgrades.

A Breakdown of the LED Lighting Project

The project included the installation of three new 80-foot-tall steel light towers on the west side of the field, near the Village Hall and Library parking lot. In addition to the new towers, eight existing 50-foot-tall light towers remain, but with a significant upgrade—new LED lighting devices replacing the outdated systems.

This new lighting system is designed to improve visibility for players and spectators, while also being energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

Funding the Vision

To bring this ambitious project to life, Ridgewood’s Village officials actively pursued grant funding. In April 2024, the Village submitted letters of intent for two Bergen County grants:

  • $235,000 for Veterans Field lighting upgrades
  • $599,335 for restoring the pedestrian tunnel at Ridgewood Train Station

Village Manager Keith Kazmark emphasized the importance of seeking grant opportunities, saying, “We are committed to aggressively pursuing grants for our parks and public works.”

What’s Included in the Upgrade?

While the LED lighting project will light up the varsity baseball diamond and all fields designated for soccer, three of the four baseball/softball diamonds at Veterans Field are not included in the upgrade. The focus on soccer fields and the varsity baseball diamond ensures these high-traffic areas are well-lit for games and practices.

What’s Next for Ridgewood’s Athletes?

The revamped lighting at Veterans Field is set to make evening sports more accessible and enjoyable for the community. Whether it’s a soccer match under the stars or a baseball game under brilliant lights, Ridgewood athletes and fans alike can look forward to an enhanced experience this spring.

Stay tuned for more updates on Ridgewood’s park upgrades and sports facilities. Don’t forget to share your thoughts on the new lighting in the comments!

  1. Residents must be pissed.

  2. These monstrosities are an eyesore. Field already has lights and portables to supplement when needed. Priority should be on protecting this field from flooding. Artificial turf money pit will come next.

  3. the “portable” lights were diesel powered. produced smoke and noise pollution. the LED light produce neither, and require less energy to run.

  6. Like we’ve been telling you knuckleheads, the sports groups are the ones behind the curtain with all the money and power, when you donate big money, the politicians it goes in your favor. You see with Donald Trump he didn’t need anybody’s money and he doesn’t owe anybody anything no paybacks. Oh yes, thumbs up and to you shitheads to put the thumbs down you’re missing informed.

    1. Not only does Trump not need anyone’s money, but if you give it to him he’ll do nothing for you in return. Ask Miriam Adelson who gave him $100 million this time around. You know she’s getting bupkis for it.

  7. đŸ«”đŸŒ they don’t care

  8. There will be lawsuits when kids start running into these poles. With the height they will also be lightning rods. Soil remediation at Schedler should have come first before splurging on this.

  9. How much will the repairs cost each time the field floods? How was construction permitted in a flood way? Was this coordinated with FEMA with permits obtained? How safe will these massive poles be after the ground has been under water?

  10. I understand now. Diesel is polluting but dumping toxic soil and installing PFAS crumb rubber fields is not.

  11. The majority of Ridgewood voters are complete idiots. They voted for this overwhelmingly in the last election. The blonde twit will win easily in two more years, and the dummies will continue to vote for ultra liberals and ultra stupid candidates. But hey, people get the government they deserve.

  13. What no newField House to store equipment ?

    1. That’s next funding cycle.

  14. it is so long overdue. We have been using the diesel powered lights for so long. It is just stupid to not put in the better lights rather than continue using the portable diesel ones.
