New Jersey, or some referred to by some as “Jersey” or “the Garden State.” It’s a place that many call home, and for a good reason! It’s known for urban convenience, and plenty of activities to do. However, what many people don’t realize is that it’s also full of natural beauty with the convenience of being just slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of big city life.
If you’re considering moving somewhere, then here are some great reasons why you might want to choose New Jersey.
Weather
While New Jersey’s weather can fluctuate throughout the year, it’s known for being a pretty reasonable place weather-wise. Whereas some locations in the United states frequently experience power outages due to strong winds or storms, New Jersey is a place where you’ll experience occasional temperature swings, but nothing extreme.
During the year you’ll experience fairly mild temperatures, yet fantastic beach weather in the summer. And even though snow storms can occur during the colder months, they’re typically short lived, and fairly harmless.
Proximity to Major Cities
One of the biggest advantages to New Jersey is that it’s not quite the big city, but it’s not a village either. Its proximity to major cities makes it incredibly convenient, since you have access to everything you need, from career opportunities to travel convenience, without having to deal with the hustle and bustle of somewhere like New York or Philadelphia. Many New Jersey towns offer incredibly affording living options yet you’re not very far from New York.
Diverse Culture
New Jersey is a melting pot full of all sorts of different cultural opportunities and communities. The diversity gives New Jersey an original twist, making it a great place to enjoy different sorts of foods, traditions, and of course festivals, all ranging from different cultures.
It’s also a great destination for arts and history. Popular attractions like the Princeton Art Museum and local theaters make it a fantastic place to enjoy the arts.
Thriving Job Market
In case you didn’t know, New Jersey offers all sorts of different employment opportunities because of its strategic location. Whether you work in healthcare or education, New Jersey is home to multiple corporate headquarters like Johnson and Johnson.
Not to mention, there is a bustling biotech industry which can offer all sorts of opportunities for not only trained professionals, but also business owners.
Great Schools
That’s right, before you assume that everybody in New Jersey speaks like they’re from the Jersey Shore, think again! New Jersey consistently ranks among one of the top states for education in the USA. The excellent public schools are a huge draw for families and students looking for a high quality education. There’s also easy access to top universities like Princeton and Rutgers.
They forgot congestion, congestion, congestion and overdevelopment. Let’s stop calling it the garden state.
Nothing to do with ‘gardens’, but whatever
I used to drive to Dumont to see my nephew plays baseball.
Eighteen stoplights from here to there…
All lies.
Our property taxes are ridiculously high.
Compared to other states I have considered, and I do own a summer place elsewhere:
I have to pay ‘property’ taxes on my cars, boats, motorcycles and furnishings in my home (since its not a primary residence)
The homeowners insurance cost at the summer place is 6 times my NJ cost
The summer place property taxes are 25% of what we pay, but since its seasonal most of us dont use the schools. There is no paid Fire dept. We pay for our own garbage or recycling or leaf pickup
NJ real estate taxes are the biggest impediment to staying here as an empty nester (while subsidizing those who use the schools which represent the LARGEST portion of the tax bill)
Keeping empty nesters in town is the ONLY way to keep your taxes from skyrocketing due to the bloated school budget. The municipal portion is a bargain (for police, fire, garbage, snow plowing, leaf pickup etc) The mcmansions in town with huge tax bills help those of us with average homes.
NJ, being a ‘union’ blue state has generous pensions, salaries and benefits for municipal, county, and state workers (who have political power to feather their own nest) so that wont ever change
But the convenience, choices, and location have allowed us to stay here in NJ… for the present time. If we move, there’s always another newly minted overpaid NY-er reading to buy the house so we can downsize
Property taxes are cheaper south of Rte 4
and continuing my comment there is excellent health care available in North NJ
Ok, we know you have 2 homes and unhappy about paying extra in taxes, but what industry did you support all those years. Did you do any good for us? What purpose did you serve? Are you giving back to the younger generations? Thank you!
Are you forgetting about the motto of their generation?
“F YOU, I GOT MINE”
damm right i busted my balls to pay for 2 homes. and i do subsidize you new york refugees who moved here with your liberal leanings and piss poor attitudes. perhaps those of us who subsidize your kids in school will open our homes to neices nephews and grand kids.. when they fill up the schools yours will be on split sessions or the taxes will rise immensely for that bloated school budget.. or you can go back to brooklyn (preferably)
Nope. In fact, better grease up that wallet, Big Daddy, because you’re going to be subsidizing a lot harder. But you’re a big man, Big Daddy, you can take it.
another kamala supporter and envious east sider.. obviously
