Hillsdale NJ, A massive structure fire broke out in Hillsdale shortly before 1:00 a.m., drawing an extensive mutual aid response from across Bergen County. Firefighters faced challenging conditions and an intense volume of flames as they fought to bring the early morning blaze under control.

Crews Shift to Defensive Mode to Protect Neighboring Homes

Upon arriving at the scene at 116 Piermont Avenue, Hillsdale Fire Department Chief Farrell immediately recognized the severity of the situation. With the residence already heavily engulfed in flames, Chief Farrell quickly requested a Working Fire Assignment, calling in surrounding mutual aid companies for urgent assistance.

Because the fire was so advanced, initial teams had to operate in a strategic defensive mode for approximately 25 minutes. Incident command deployed massive master streams to knock down the bulk of the intense flames, establishing a powerful water barrier to stop the fire from spreading to nearby exposures and neighboring properties.

A Collaborative Regional Response

As the operation progressed, additional regional mutual aid resources poured into the scene. These visiting departments provided critical:
