A Hero Abroad: Combat Service in the Korean War

Bud’s legacy of service began on the global stage as a member of the United States Army. As a combat veteran who served on the front lines during the Korean War, Ehrenberg answered his nation’s call with bravery and distinction.

But for Bud, returning home to New Jersey didn’t mean stepping away from public service; it marked the beginning of a legendary local career spanning over half a century.

Serving Bergen County for Decades on the Ground

If you live in Bergen County, chances are your quality of life has been directly impacted by Bud Ehrenberg’s decades of hard work. For more than 40 years, Bud led the Bergen County Mosquito Control Division, ensuring the safety, health, and comfort of millions of residents over his tenure.

Simultaneously, Bud became a foundational fixture of local emergency response. He has proudly served with the Paramus Fire Department for over 60 years, climbing the ranks to eventually serve as the department’s Chief. Keeping a community safe for six decades is a milestone few ever achieve, making his dedication to Paramus nothing short of extraordinary.

“An Extraordinary Lifetime of Service”

In a statement celebrating the announcement, Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the entire region:

“We are grateful for Bud’s extraordinary lifetime of service to both our nation and our community.”

As Bergen County continues to celebrate its local heroes, Chief Bud Ehrenberg stands out as a shining example of what it means to dedicate one’s life to the safety and betterment of others.

Thank you for your service, Bud!
