New Brunswick NJ, three unions representing about 9,000 Rutgers University faculty and staff will go on strike this Monday morning after nearly a year of gridlocked contract negotiations, marking the first educator strike in the university’s nearly 257-year history, according to the unions.
94% of the faculty members belonging to three unions voted to authorize a strike last month, effectively warning the university that they were serious about carrying out their intentions after negotiations failed to produce substantive counterproposals addressing their core demands — to raise wages for graduate workers and secure longer contracts with benefits for part-time professors.

Reallocate from athletic budget. Rutgers spent a record $138.4 million ($138,439,077 to be exact) in 2021-22, a roughly 14.5% bump from the $118.4M it spent last year. The expenditures include $29.7 million in coaching salaries, $21.5 million in administrative-staff salaries, $18.7 million in scholarship aid, $16 million in athletics-facilities debt, $2 million in severance payments, $5.1 million on non-travel student-athlete meals, among others.
It’s a shame. They sold their souls for a lousy football program, cutting academics to pay a huge salary to the football coach.
