Valet parking constitutes an EMERGENCY? Seriously? Just when we thought that we’d seen it all

Valet parking constitutes an EMERGENCY?

Ridgewood NJ, The pictured signs have just been posted at all parking areas being used on Friday and Saturday nights for the Village’s Central Valet Parking program.

Chapter 265-44 of the Village of Ridgewood Code, cited on each posted sign, reads as follows:

§ 265-44. Posting of signs.

A.  Upon the declaration of an emergency, there shall be no parking upon streets or parts of streets where temporary emergency no parking signs are displayed. The Chief of Police, or in his absence the ranking police officer, is authorized to declare an emergency and to direct the posting of said emergency no-parking signs when weather conditions, accidents, fires or public celebrations dictate or require the avoidance of hazards or other conditions which interfere with the free flow of traffic.

B.  Notification that the emergency no-parking signs are being or will be posted shall be given to the operator or owner of any vehicle which has been parked prior to the posting of the signs.

What exactly is the emergency (as defined by subsection “A” of 265-44) associated with Valet Parking?  And, the North Walnut Street Municipal Parking Lot is not a “street.”  So would any summonses issued for 265-44 at that location even hold up in court?

When will they ever learn.

  1. This is all Jeff Voigt fault , oh that right he wasn’t at this weeks council meeting where this was discussed. Oh well its Gabbert fault or maybe Bush.

  2. Our Village attorney writes and/or interprets the ordinances, right? That’s what 250k a year gets you.

  3. How much does it cost us for each of these new signs being made?

  4. Whole thing makes me sick. Tempest in a teapot. Endless waste of time and re sources. Walk two blocks and you’ll find a parking space. On the way back, walk off the gigantic steak and wine you just ate. The end. $5 + tip for parking on the street where parking is free is NOT HAPPENING–most elitist thing I’ve heard in a long time.

  5. Look how they screwed this up just imagine when they get teir collective hands on The Hudson Street Garage , The Town Garage Property and the Elk’s Club.

  6. plenty of overtime for ridgewood pd

  7. Now that the fiasco has been postponed, has someone been directed to either cover or remove these signs? My guess is no.

  8. Signs have been removed. Hmmm. Perhaps no valet program will ever be implemented.

  9. 7:32 Refreshing to see that Jeff is reading the blog and posting nice things about himself. No one else but Jeff would post positive reports on him. He can’t even be honest to the man in the mirror.

  10. This is just a Big F. U. to Ridgewood residents.

  11. 2.54 Nailed It…
