Ridgewood NJ, Antoinette Kelly presented the 2020-2021 Preliminary Assumption Budget to give an overview of the first draft of the budget.  Governor Phil Murphy will deliver his Budget Address on February 25; then, we will have 48 hours to get our State Aid numbers. The final preliminary budget needs to be accepted and approved by the Board by March 2 and submitted to the County Superintendent by March 4.

Antoinette began by sharing the Ridgewood Public Schools Mission Statement as a reminder of our goals and how they are connected to the Vision 2024 Strategic Plan, which drives our work as a district. For 2021, we do not have information on healthcare costs.  The increase reflected in the preliminary budget is based on the recommendation from the health agent. For two years, the increase in premium rates has been very low, but there has been no indication yet from the State of New Jersey on the increases for 2021.

There is no additional staffing included the preliminary budget. For Special Programs, we try to maintain or return our students to the district. Antoinette described all of these programs throughout the district. Regarding technology and security, we budgeted for the replacement of 307 classroom phones, as the models we currently have were discontinued a few years ago. We are scheduled to replace the sixth grade and eighth-grade Chromebooks, and IT is also looking to replace SMART Boards in the elementary schools. We are also considering purchasing a walkie-talkie system as part of our security measures.

For custodial, maintenance, and grounds, the first round of Requests for Proposals have been received and were rejected because the costs were too high to absorb into our budget.  The second round of proposals are due today. The budget also contains $350,000 for summer maintenance projects. Click here to view the presentation.
