“Our heartfelt thanks to Mayor Knudsen. The neighbors of the Glen School playing area are grateful. We hope the pickleball players will find another form of exercise in which to participate in order to maintain their health during this difficult Covid-19 time. However, there are both public (free) and private pickleball courts in Bergen County which are located in non- residential areas, and which are available to Ridgewood residents. (Google it.) To answer some comments, I would say that the revenue brought in by pickleball each year is considerably less then the taxes paid by the Glen School neighbors each year. Perhaps you might agree that the taxpayers that live here deserve consideration. To the person who complained about the court closing being arbitrary and capricious, I would point out that the placement of the pickleball courts here was done in the same way… arbitrary, capricious, with no prior notice to the neighbors or neighborhood, during the prior administration. So, again, thank you Mayor Knudsen. I hope that by March 22, a way can be found to resolve this situation equitably for all concerned. And Happy New Year.”

  1. When you buy a house next to a tennis court……..there might be people playing tennis, or maybe pickleball. That’s not arbitrary or capricious. It’s logical and expected.

  2. Why didn’t she or the council help the Habernickel neighbors with a BUSINESS that acts as a rental hall was out in their neighborhood?

  3. Placement is everything and a privately owned business in a park surrounded by homes is not the right place for a business either

    Buses
    Lights
    Alcohol
    Birthday parties
Camps in holidays when school is out
( no peace on the highest Jewish holiday)
Restaurant style dinners at night with alcohol
It is so noticeable now with covid how the Habernickel neighborhood was 5 years ago

  4. I live by the park and I noticed the quiet Back mostly to the way it was

If it stayed just one or 2 classes a day for children as we as a neighborhood were told I am fine with it but the camps, buses, lights, birthday parties, alcohol and field trips 6 days a week 8AM-9:30 pm even during holidays was too much and very unfair

Why is the mayor helping this one group and not another?

  5. What about when you buy a house next to a horse farm that gets turned into a park with false promises of what is allowed then they put a PRIVATE business there that is open 6 days a week. Lights, buses, field trips, private parties with alcohol All year and is privately owned? Should that be expected just curious.? Because the Habernickel neighborhood needs help no help or changes to help the neighborhood from council

  7. Didn’t the Glenn school neighborhood get $20,000 for bushes to be planted to help with the noise coming from the courts? Habernickle neighbors got a business added, parking lot lights (pickle ball courts have NO lights) double yellow line added to Hillcrest Rd I can continue but my point is we haven’t seen a dine to help with all that has disrupted our neighborhood!!!! We also have lost a lot of trees that added protection form the homes on Andover which have to look at school buses, headlights from cars & parking lot lights streaming into homes. No new trees were added only stumps remain. Why is that? The neighbors on Andover signed a petition to have the lights turned off but oddly enough that was never looked into. So Glenn school neighbors be happy you have the Mayor on your side to help because we have gotten no support!!!!

  8. More whiney, entitled people who tried to get into Ridgewood on the cheap and are now complaining that they are not in a quiet neighborhood.
This is the world in 2021…

  9. East side will likely get preference, one because it is more desirable location and two because all of the council lives there. Three in Somerville (1/4 or less from the school) and the other two in Travell district.

  10. No where In ridgewood is cheap. Especially the west side Taxes are higher and problems obviously ignored by council

  11. For the record, you don’t need to buy a house in the Glen school neighborhood near the tennis courts to hear the pickle ball. It’s that loud

  12. “No where In ridgewood is cheap. “

On the cheap relative to other houses in the area.

Houses next to busy streets, schools, public areas, businesses, etc. are relatively cheaper than other comparable houses in the same neighborhood that are not in these undesirable locations. People wanting to get into a nice neighborhood “on the cheap” make the compromise and will buy these houses to save a few bucks. Then they forget that they were too cheap to pay the premium and start whining.

Do I really need to spell it out for you?
You get what you pay for.

Just curious… are you a product of the Ridgewood school system?

  13. I don’t hear the pickleball in my house.
It’s only loud if you paid less to buy in that area.

  14. I went to 5-6 baseball games at Glenn fields this year. I noticed the pickle ballers when I parked (courts were full) but didn’t notice any noise while watching junior 100 yards away. Seems like 1-2 people want to shut down the seniors getting exercise. Maybe should just go down block to Washington Township.

  15. @are you a product of the ridgewood school system. Are you? That is the most irrelevant question in this discussion ever

Now how would you feel if you lived in an extremely desirable area close to a quiet park for 10 years then had a private business thrown in your face?

Maybe you bought your house on “ the cheap” but some people have problems without “ buying their house on the cheap”. Do I have to spell it out for you?

  16. Foam Quiet Ball by Gamma
The Foam Quiet Ball by Gamma is a simple solution to the noise complaints about the sound of paddles hitting balls. This ball is made out of foam, greatly reducing the amount of noise produced on impact. However, the ball plays slightly different than the typical pickleball made from plastic. You won’t get the characteristic pickleball pop from the Foam Quiet Ball. It can be used in casual games, drills, or practice but is not approved for official tournament use. This ball also works well for casual dink practice against indoor walls.

The Foam Quiet Ball is a bit smaller than a traditional pickleball. However, this difference is less than a tenth of an inch and is almost unnoticeable. It is the lightest ball on the market, weighing only 0.71 ounces. Those playing outside should pay special attention to weather conditions as wind can affect the movement of the ball. This ball does have a relatively good average bounce height of 32”.

The Foam Quiet Ball is available in yellow only and sold in packages of six.

  17. “on the cheap is relative”.
ALL houses in Ridgewood are “cheap” when compared to houses in Palm Beach.

Pickleball houses, due to their proximity to the courts, are cheaper than other comparable houses IN RIDGEWOOD – which is what we are talking about.

You bought a house on the cheap near a sports facility in Ridgewood.
You took a risk and lost.
You get what you pay for.

  18. One thing to buy near a beautiful sports facility another when an active privately owned business is placed in the same place

  19. “ East side will likely get preference, one because it is more desirable location and two because all of the council lives there.”

The West side is certainly the more desirable side of town. All the most expensive houses on the west side. Whoever wrote this has no idea what he/she is talking about…
