Franklin Lakes NJ, Ramapo football head coach Drew Gibbs died Tuesday morning.
The school informed the students and faculty of Gibbs’ passing in an email, saying Gibbs died of complications “from an aortic dissection and complications from surgery.”
It is being reported from multiple sources close to the football program that Gibbs collapsed at football practice Monday evening and was taken to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood for emergency surgery. A CAT scan revealed a tear in his aortic valve.
Gibbs has been a pillar of the North Jersey football coaching community. He has been the Green Raiders coach since 2001 and led them to seven sectional titles. Among his alumni are former NFL star wide receiver Chris Hogan.
