But what about exercise ?

Ridgewood NJ,

Ridgewood has officially earned the prestigious Mayors Wellness Campaign (MWC) “Healthy Town” designation for 2024! 🎉 That’s right—we’re a town dedicated to health and wellness! Now, if only more of us would actually get up and move.

What Makes Ridgewood a “Healthy Town”?

According to the MWC, Ridgewood was recognized for its wide range of health-focused programs—which, let’s be honest, are fantastic. Over the past year, the Ridgewood Health Department has tackled big topics like:
Menopause & Hormonal Health (Important!)
The Mediterranean Diet & Nutrition (Delicious!)
Suicide Prevention & Mental Health Awareness (Vital!)
Parenting Neurodivergent Children (Much needed!)

Additionally, the Health Department runs monthly blood pressure and child health clinics, so you can check on your heart without breaking a sweat.

A “Wellness Town” That’s… Well, Sitting?

“Ridgewood is an amazing place to live and call home,” said Mayor Paul Vagianos, pictured with the Mayors Wellness Campaign Committee (likely standing still for the photo). “Staying healthy is a choice, and we are so proud of the efforts we have made in helping residents make that choice.”

But let’s be real—are we actually choosing health? Or are we just choosing to read about it while lounging on the couch?

Will Ridgewood Residents Actually Get Moving?

Getting the Healthy Town title is great—but does anyone actually exercise? The programs are here, the resources are available, but how many of us are participating versus just nodding along and promising to “start next week”?

Ridgewood Joins 31 Other Healthy(ish) NJ Towns

Ridgewood is one of 32 towns to earn this title in 2024, thanks to the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute and the New Jersey State League of Municipalities. But unless we start using those sidewalks, bike trails, and gyms, will we really deserve it next year?

Time to Walk the Walk (Literally!)

🏃‍♂️ Will you actually make the effort? Or will we just keep winning awards for wellness while sitting comfortably at home?

  1. Ironic.
Ridgewood is a very unhealthy town…. just look at the politics and schools.

  2. This is a great post, especially regarding the health and well-being of the village employees. That’s something that the mayor council Village management need to implement throughout the workforce. Why are we saying this, well because a good majority of employees definitely need to go for a fit for duty test. Because you have individuals that are completely out of shape, especially some of the Formans/supervisors are one step away from heart attack. And we do know in the recent past that they threaten a few employees that if you don’t retire, we’re gonna send you for for duty or send you for a fifth for duty and if you can’t pass, we will force you with the retirement status . And yes, we know a few of you will put thumbs down, but we all know it’s true. They just don’t wanna admit it, but we know the truth. 👍

  3. “Additionally, the Health Department runs monthly blood pressure and child health clinics, so you can check on your heart without breaking a sweat.” – so actually running a once a month blood pressure test makes us healthy? Who writes this stuff?

  4. I love when I see thumbs down at a report The so true. I can handle the truth. They can’t handle freedom of speech too. They would love to control us, but it’s not going to happen. This is not the suburban news, this is not the Ridgewood news, this is not the record, or the individuals behind the curtain.
