Ridgewood NJ, a rather disturbing revelation was made by Ridgewood officials during Tuesday’s Fields Committee meeting.
And it was that historical data stored in the Village’s “Master Library” of fields usage, and shared with NJDEP officials in support of the revised application to construct an artificial turf athletic field on West Saddle River Road, may be tainted with inaccurate data.
This is because many sports groups have scheduled use of a field in the “Master Library” and then did not use the field they scheduled. Thus, the database contains many more indications of field use than actually took place. In short, fields are not actually being used as often as the database says they are. So, perhaps an additional athletic field is not even needed?
There is some concern as to whether this false information was known by Village officials prior to the data being submitted to NJDEP.
Will we ever get a straight answer from the Village on this? The Ridgewood Blog thinks not.

Dirtbags at Village Hall strike again. Deceptive tactics being used to get that artificial turf field built. What won’t they resort to in order to get what they want?
You will never get a straight answer from the village or sports organizations. Also why are my tax dollars going to fund yet another field for programs that include children from other towns. There’s very little transparency from this mayor, the council or the village manager.
This mayor also allows your tax dollars to support a business that is solely private and about 90 percent usage from kids from all over NJ. Massive field trips 5 days a week over take Habernickel park which YOUR tax dollars pay to maintain the areas after these trips. This goes on all Spring, Summer and Fall No shared profits with the town!!! Your tax dollars are also paying for the larger pavilion just built that the business clearly has dibs on but your tax dollars will pay to also maintain this area. Not fair to residents to use our money to support a private business over and over
Why are people so mad about the fact that some residents want a new field? Serious question. As a new resident, I don’t understand what the problem is and am asking in earnest.

If you’re on this blog and posting on a Schedler news item, or have taken 5 minutes to Google search the environmental disaster this project has been (wrapped in odious lies and deception from this current council), you already know why.
Nice try though.
People would rather see these spaces left as natural parks and reserves. This has repeatedly been what the majority would like. But the governing geeks and sports fanatics will stop at nothing, ethcically/legally/honestly, to get their way. We have a lot of sports fields in town…but we have very littly open spaces.
It’s because they could absolutely maintain the very many fields that we have, it’s that they don’t want to. The fields that they are putting in are filled with PFAS, which not only leeches into the soil and the water, but we don’t even know the long-term effects on the children that play on them. With this particular field, they got a grant which was to maintain natural space which should’ve meant honoring and maintaining the 7 acres of wetlands trees, but instead they have destroyed it, dumping contaminated soil all over it, taking zero responsibility, denying it until a resident reported it. This field is a disaster, it’s not about having new fields at all, I am a professional trainer, I am all for natural grass fields. But I am 100% against turf fields, not just for my athletes, but for the environment. It’s the way this council went about it, they lied, they misused the grant money, they dumped 24,000,000 pounds of contaminated soil, denied it, this is not how it’s supposed to be. I hope that makes sense.

It’s amazing how they’re worrying about installing a new field, spend the money that they don’t have. And not worrying what they should be worrying about and that is if anyone was affected by the contamination, it’s amazing how they looking the other way. The mail council manager need to do the right thing. And they’re not. What the hell is a matter with them. How is it? You never reached out to any of the neighbors that live next to these locations, or any of the employees that work at these locations. You people are really sick.
The problem is that people have kids, they put them into activities to expand their minds and get them outdoors for health reasons but then put them on hot plastic turf that burns, gives them abrasions, gets peed on, with blood and spit, then they go pop open a bottle of water with cray on their hands and go home with crumb rubber in their underwear. This sh*t isn’t even sanitized. It is so disgusting. Any mom that has looked at those burns and cleaned that clothing will tell you. Gross
