Ridgefield Apartment Building Evacuated After Tractor-Trailer Crash Causes Major Damage

Ridgefield NJ, a major accident involving a tractor-trailer and multiple vehicles early Friday morning led to widespread damage, two hospitalizations, and the evacuation of an apartment building with 50 residential units.

Tractor-Trailer Crash Disrupts Ridgefield Community

At approximately 2:50 a.m. on May 30, emergency crews responded to a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Broad Avenue and Maple Avenue in Ridgefield. According to the Ridgefield Fire Department, a tractor-trailer collided with two vehicles, utility poles, and ultimately crashed into a residential apartment building.

The impact caused widespread power outages and forced the evacuation of the entire building, which houses 50 apartments, confirmed Mayor Hugo Jimenez in a statement to News 12 New Jersey.

Power Outages and Hospitalizations

The crash knocked down utility poles, cutting electricity for hundreds of Ridgefield residents in the area between Maple Avenue and Linden Avenue.

Two individuals were transported to local hospitals in stable condition:

  • One was rescued from a trapped vehicle by the fire department.

  • A firefighter experienced a medical emergency during the response and was also taken to the hospital

Emergency Crews on the Scene for Hours

Fire and police units from Palisades Park, Fairview, and Cliffside assisted with the emergency response. Crews remained on the scene for about four hours, working to stabilize the area, remove debris, and investigate the crash.

As of now, the cause of the accident remains unknown. The Ridgefield Police Department has not released an official statement.

Community Impact and Ongoing Investigation

With dozens of residents displaced and power out across a major corridor of Ridgefield, local officials are urging patience and caution as recovery efforts continue.

“Safety is our top priority. We’re grateful no lives were lost and thank all emergency responders for their quick action,” said Mayor Jimenez.
