Ridgewood NJ, Giants fans, get ready to welcome a familiar face back to North Jersey. The New York Giants are bringing former Pro Bowl kicker Younghoe Koo home, signing the Ridgewood native to a deal after Graham Gano suffered a groin injury.
A Pro Bowl Kicker Comes to the Meadowlands
Younghoe Koo, 30, is no stranger to success. The former Atlanta Falcons standout was a foundational piece for the team over six seasons, earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2020. His career field goal percentage of 86.8% ranks him among the best kickers in the league and 13th on the all-time NFL leaderboard.
After being released by the Falcons following a missed field goal in the season opener, Koo worked out for the Giants on Tuesday morning. He will initially join the team’s practice squad but is expected to be elevated for game days to fill in for Gano.
Koo’s return to the area is a full-circle moment for the veteran. Born in Seoul, South Korea, he moved to Ridgewood, New Jersey, as a child, where he played soccer before becoming a football star at Ridgewood High School. He holds the school record for highest field-goal percentage at Georgia Southern University, where he continued his kicking career.
What This Means for the Giants
With Gano sidelined, the Giants need a reliable leg, and Koo fits the bill perfectly. His consistent performance and clutch ability give the team a proven option. While it’s a tough break for Gano, bringing in a kicker of Koo’s caliber provides stability and a significant upgrade to a critical position.
Koo’s journey has now led him back to the very place where he first found his love for the sport, and fans are eager to see him in a Giants uniform.
