TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey’s gubernatorial race has been thrust into a campaign finance controversy after a report by the Washington Examiner highlighted significant contributions to Democratic candidate Rep. Mikie Sherrill from a Chinese business leader with alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The report, published Monday, details approximately $45,000 in combined donations benefiting Sherrill’s political career from Pin Ni, the President of Wanxiang America. Wanxiang America is the U.S. arm of the colossal Chinese auto parts conglomerate, Wanxiang Group.

The Breakdown of Contributions

The funds received by Sherrill’s political entities include:

  • $30,000 Check: Personally written by Pin Ni in February to One Giant Leap PAC, a political action committee supporting Sherrill’s gubernatorial bid.
  • $14,500: Contributed previously to her congressional campaign committee between 2022 and 2024.

The total contributions approaching $45,000 place the spotlight squarely on the source of the funding, raising questions about foreign influence in a high-stakes state election.

The CCP Connection and Policy Alignment

The Examiner further reported that corporate documents identify Pin Ni as a member of the Chinese Communist Party, noting he has been internally recognized by the Wanxiang Group as an “outstanding Communist Party member.”

This link is particularly scrutinized due to the nature of Ni’s business. Wanxiang America is heavily invested in the electric vehicle (EV) and clean-energy supply chains—sectors that stand to benefit directly from green energy policies and incentives that Sherrill has championed during her time in Congress. Critics suggest this alignment creates a potential conflict of interest, linking a major political donor with CCP ties to key policy areas he could profit from.

The Sherrill campaign has not yet commented on the contributions or the reported ties of the donor.

The revelation of this funding stream adds another layer of complexity to an already contentious New Jersey governor’s race, forcing a debate over national security, campaign finance transparency, and the integrity of American political funding.

  1. If true, it’s highly troubling that someone who received a free education at the Naval Academy, served in the Navy for 9+ years, swore to uphold the Constitution, and defend the United States would be in bed with our enemies.

    1. ..and she got her kids into USNA I was reading today.
