HAWTHORNE, NJ – A serious two-vehicle rollover accident on Route 208 Southbound caused a total highway shutdown and sent two people to the hospital on Friday afternoon, February 13, 2026.
The Incident on Route 208
The collision occurred during the busy Friday afternoon commute in the southbound lanes of Route 208. The impact of the crash caused one of the vehicles to flip onto its roof, necessitating an immediate emergency response and the temporary closure of all southbound lanes.
Emergency Response and Traffic Impact
Traffic was brought to a standstill between Goffle Road in Hawthorne and Harristown Road in Glen Rock as first responders worked the scene. A multi-jurisdictional effort was required to manage the incident, featuring personnel from:
-
Hawthorne: Police, Fire Department, and EMS
-
Glen Rock: Police, Fire Department, and EMS
-
Volunteer Units: Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department
Both drivers involved in the crash were treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to local hospitals for further medical evaluation.

A flatbed tow truck was dispatched to the highway to right the overturned vehicle. Once the flipped car was secured and removed, crews worked to clear debris, allowing the highway to eventually reopen to Friday evening traffic.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Hawthorne Police Department.
