Old Tappan NJ, A tense situation at Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan ended in an arrest on Monday, April 27, 2026, after a report of a student with a weapon triggered a massive law enforcement response and a campus-wide lockdown.
The Incident: Rapid Response in Old Tappan
The alarm was raised at approximately 11:30 a.m. when a student reported that a peer might be in possession of a weapon inside the school building. Following strict safety protocols, school administrators immediately placed the facility on lockdown and notified local authorities.
The response was swift and multi-jurisdictional. Officers from Old Tappan, Northvale, Norwood, Harrington Park, Closter, and River Vale descended on the scene, supported by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the Bergen County SWAT Team.
The Suspect and the Weapon
Police quickly located and apprehended the student suspect. Upon a search, authorities discovered a CO2 air pistol in the student’s possession.
