Hackensack NJ, What happens when the region’s top surgeons trade their scalpels for Stratocasters? You get LiveStream, a high-energy rock band comprised of medical powerhouses from Hackensack Meridian Health.
This May, these healthcare heroes are stepping out of the OR and into the spotlight for an epic Battle of the Bands in New York City. The goal? To rock the house while raising vital funds for the American Urological Association (AUA).
Meet the Band: Surgery by Day, Rock by Night
LiveStream isn’t your average garage band. The lineup features some of the most respected names in medicine today:

Lead Vocals & Keys: Dr. Debra Fromer, Vice Chair and Chief of Urogynecology at Hackensack University Medical Center. A lifelong musician, Dr. Fromer once used hospital pianos to soothe patients during her residency.

Drums: Dr. Michael Stifelman, Regional Chair of Urology North and a pioneer in robotic surgery.

Trumpet: Dr. Brian Benson, Chair of Otolaryngology and a Juilliard-trained musician.
Despite their grueling schedules, this group of specialists finds time to jam once or twice a month, proving that harmony in the band room leads to better harmony in the hospital.
Rocking for a Reason: Diversity in Medicine
The upcoming Battle of the Bands isn’t just about the music—it’s about the future of healthcare. The event supports AUA initiatives focused on recruitment and mentorship.
“One thing the NY section is dedicated to is enhancing recruitment efforts to encompass a broader range of talent,” says Dr. Fromer. “It’s important for us to enable mentoring and develop new sourcing strategies to tap into diverse talent pools.”
