Demarest NJ, A violent blaze broke out in Demarest, New Jersey, heavily damaging a local residence on Woodland Road. First responders from multiple Bergen County fire departments battled the 3-alarm fire for over three hours before bringing it under control.

Fortunately, authorities confirmed that no one was home at the time of the incident.

3-Alarm Response: Heavy Fire Showing in Demarest

Around 3:44 PM (1544 hours), County dispatch issued a box alarm for a reported house fire on Woodland Road in Demarest, NJ.

Upon arrival, Engine 26-1 reported heavy flames pouring from the second floor and attic area, prompting the immediate call for a 2nd alarm.

Mutual Aid and Firefighting Operations:

• Initial Suppression: The Cresskill Squad arrived first on scene, utilizing a deck gun to quickly knock down the bulk of the intense exterior fire threatening the home’s deck and structure.

• Interior Attack: The Demarest Squad arrived as the second-due engine. Firefighters stretched three hose lines into the dwelling to suppress the remaining flames trapped in the second floor and attic space.

• 3rd Alarm Upgrade: Due to the severity and rapid spread of the fire, command upgraded the call to a 3rd alarm, bringing in Southside mutual aid companies to assist on scene and cover borough fire stations.

Under the command of Chief McLoughlin, crews operated on scene for just over three hours before bringing the blaze under full control and returning to service.

Cause Under Investigation

While the home sustained extensive damage to the deck, second floor, and attic, quick action by Demarest and surrounding mutual aid departments prevented further destruction or spread to neighboring properties.

The cause of the blaze is currently under active investigation by the Demarest Fire Prevention Bureau and the Bergen County Fire Marshal.
