Ridgewood Community Steps Up as RHS Fields Close Indefinitely

Ridgewood NJ, Following the sudden, indefinite closures of both Stadium Field and Stevens Field at Ridgewood High School (RHS), local officials are stepping in to ensure youth sports can proceed this fall.
To mitigate the impact on student-athletes, the Village of Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department is actively coordinating with the RHS Athletic Director’s Office to maximize the use of local municipal facilities for practices and competitive games.
Maximizing Local Municipal Facilities
Although municipal fields in Ridgewood are already heavily scheduled, village leaders are adjusting existing field allocations to accommodate as many local teams and age groups as possible.
“In light of the indefinite closures of both Stadium Field and Stevens Field at Ridgewood High School, the Village of Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department has been directed to work closely with the RHS Athletic Director’s Office to maximize the use of Village facilities to accommodate practices and games for athletes of all ages.
While Village fields are often scheduled to capacity, we are adjusting schedules wherever possible to accommodate as many teams as we can this fall.”

Regional Outreach for Additional Field Space
Recognizing that municipal field capacity alone may not cover all athletic requirements, local officials are reaching out to neighboring municipalities and government agencies throughout Bergen County to secure additional field access.
The joint initiative highlights a shared commitment between local government and the school district to prioritize the needs of student-athletes during a challenging scheduling disruption.

While the Board of Education and Village field assets are separate, we are one community. The Village will continue to work closely with school officials to support and accommodate our many student athletes during this challenging situation.”
