Paramus NJ, In a deeply moving ceremony held at the Paramus Veterans Memorial Home, 57 local military veterans were officially presented with State Service Medals by the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
The event brought together local, county, state, and federal leaders to recognize the extraordinary sacrifices made by New Jersey servicemembers across generations. Hosted by New Jersey’s Commissioner of Veterans Affairs Vincent Solomeno and key state officials, the gathering served as a powerful reminder of the community’s ongoing obligation to support those who served.
Local Leaders Express Deep Gratitude and Inspiration
Local leaders were visibly moved by the morning’s tributes. Paramus Mayor Chris DiPiazza, alongside Councilmembers Nadera and Kaiser, joined residents and families to celebrate the honorees.
Reflecting on his first time attending the medal presentation, Mayor DiPiazza shared:
“A wonderful morning with Councilmembers Nadera & Kaiser at the Veterans Home in Paramus. Veterans were awarded their State Service Medals. My first experience at a service like this, it was truly humbling and inspiring to be in a room with so many men and women who have sacrificed for our country!

Bergen County’s Ongoing Commitment: Net Zero Veteran Homelessness and Benefit Recovery
Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco emphasized that honoring veterans goes beyond ceremonial awards—it requires actionable, daily support for those who wore the uniform.
“We owe so much to the veterans who served and sacrificed to help protect our freedom. Today, we had the privilege of showing our gratitude as 57 veterans received medals at a State Service Medal Ceremony at the Paramus Veterans Memorial Home, hosted by the New Jersey Department of Veterans Affairs.
Thank you to New Jersey’s first Commissioner of Veterans Affairs Vincent Solomeno and state leadership for organizing this meaningful ceremony. We were also proud to be joined by Senator Cory Booker, Congressman Josh Gottheimer, and so many other elected officials who took the time to come together and honor these servicemembers for their dedication and sacrifice.
Here in Bergen County, our Division of Veterans Services works every day to make sure our veterans receive the benefits and support they have earned. Through that work, we have helped veterans claw back millions of dollars in benefits they were entitled to, while remaining proud to maintain a net zero rate of veteran homelessness in Bergen County. Our veterans have given so much to us, and we will continue doing everything we can to give back to them.”
Broad Bipartisan Support for New Jersey Servicemembers
The ceremony drew prominent lawmakers from across the state and region, including U.S. Senator Cory Booker and Congressman Josh Gottheimer, demonstrating unified support for veteran welfare initiatives across Northern New Jersey.
Through county initiatives—including maintaining a net-zero rate of veteran homelessness and retrieving millions in back-logged federal benefits—Bergen County continues to set a statewide standard for honoring its military community through real, tangible action.
