Carlstadt NJ, A fast response by the Carlstadt Fire Department saved a local house of worship from severe structural damage on Thursday, August 27, after crews spotted flames along the building’s exterior roofline while handling a separate call nearby.
The incident unfolded near the intersection of Broad and Madison streets in Carlstadt. According to Carlstadt Fire Department Public Information Officer Jarrett Milligan, firefighters were initially investigating an odor of smoke at a nearby garage when units noticed visible smoke rising from the roof of Iglesia Bautista Hispana Church.
Swift Action Limits Exterior Roof Damage
Upon discovering the smoke, fire crews immediately redirected their focus to investigate the church structure. Firefighters located a small, active fire along the exterior roofline and rapidly deployed lines to knock down the flames.
Thanks to the crew’s immediate detection and quick deployment, the fire was contained before it could penetrate deep into the building’s interior. Damage was largely restricted to the exterior section of the roofline.
