Ridgewood High School Class of 1975 Makes History: Iconic Clock Tower Restored After 30 Years

Silent for Decades, Ridgewood High School’s Clock Tower Rings Out Once Again

Ridgewood NJ, In a record-breaking show of community pride, the Ridgewood High School Class of 1975 has made school history by funding the full restoration of the iconic clock tower overlooking Alumni Square. Silent for more than 30 years, the cherished campus landmark will soon have its clock and chimes brought back to life for current students and future generations.

A Record-Breaking Gift to Alma Mater

Following their 50th reunion, members of the Class of 1975 sought a meaningful way to leave a lasting legacy at Ridgewood High School.

Their collective efforts generated a $9,300 donation, officially making it the largest class-directed gift in Ridgewood High School history.

In addition to restoring the clock tower:

• Student Scholarships: The class awarded a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in 2026.

• Future Support: Remaining and additional funds raised will go directly toward funding a 2027 senior scholarship.

From a Lunch Conversation to Campus History

What started as an informal conversation over lunch quickly transformed into a full-scale, classwide fundraising initiative. The alumni community rallied together, reaching their ambitious goal in just over three weeks.

Leadership and restoration efforts were spearheaded by key contributors and historic restoration experts:

• Class Leadership: Class President Frank Farrell, alongside committee members Marilyn McGarry Green, Rita Sisco Jenkins, Cheryl Richard Doherty, Doug Christie, Pamela Weiler, Doug Terhune, and Mike Lanni.

• Clock Restoration Experts: Carl Rickershauser and Coastal Clock & Chime, who handled the intricate mechanical repairs required to bring the clock and chimes back online.

Thanks to the generosity and vision of the Class of 1975, this historic piece of RHS tradition will quite literally be heard across campus for decades to come.
