Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood blog has learned thru the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association of the passing of beloved teacher, coach and counselor Richard “Dick” LaRue. Dick’s commitment to education spanned a lifetime. He began his career at RHS teaching English and Spanish, in addition to coaching soccer and track, from 1953 to 1958. After almost 20 years away, Dick returned to RHS in 1977 to serve as a guidance counselor until his retirement in 1990.

The inductees included Tony Award winning actor, Ali Stroker (2005), Congressional Gold Medal winner, Thomas Hawkins (1942), lifetime educator, Dr. Deborah Thomas (1971), World-Renowned Cardiologist, Dr. Ajay Kirtane (1990) & tech pioneer and entrepreneur, Dave Duffield (1958). Ridgewood NJ, Building on the success of the RHS Alumni Career Speaker Series, the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association (RHSAA) launched a complementary program, the RHS Alumni Externship Program (RAX), designed to give juniors and seniors an interactive career mentorship experience with professionals in a variety of career fields and positions. RHS alumni eagerly responded to this unique opportunity to give back to their high school community in a way that would have a meaningful impact on the next generation of leaders, innovators, creators and thinkers.

Dear RHS Community,
You may be aware that last year the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association hosted its inaugural Homecoming/Reunion Weekend. We endeavored to centralize Reunions to allow for more camaraderie between celebratory classes and offered an opportunity to visit your Alma Mater hosted by current ambassadors on a coordinated weekend. We were excited to make our second annual Homecoming weekend that much more special this October when the classes ending in five and zero celebrated their respective reunions. Unfortunately, the Ridgewood High School Alumni Association has made the difficult decision to postpone Homecoming until the fall of 2021.

Ridgewood NJ, Last week the eminent physicist Dr. David Coward spoke to RHS students. Physicist, Emeritus at Stanford University and a member of RHS Class of 1952, Dr. Howard was part of the collaboration that ultimately led to the discovery of quarks in 1968, for which the 1990 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded. He is also a member of RHS Distinguished Alumni.
David Coward received his Bachelor of Engineering Physics from Cornell University and his Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford University. An experimental physicist at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), he made indispensable contributions to the SLAC-MIT experiments that discovered the quark structure of the proton and neutron. The 1990 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded for his work. As a member of CERN’s NA31 Collaboration, he shared the 2005 European Physics Society High Energy and Particle Physics Prize. He is now Physicist Emeritus at Stanford University. Inducted 2008.
David Coward, was awarded the RHS Distinguished Alumni Award during the 60th reunion of the class in October 2012.

Ridgewood NJ, So it safe to say this is really happening!, hundreds of people who love and support Ridgewood High School will gather under this beautiful tent on Veterans Field to celebrate 125 years of excellence. It will be a total and complete celebration of a place that has educated thousands .
Food stations, hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and speciality drinks — along with musical entertainment — will help celebrate Ridgewood High School’s 125th anniversary at the “Party in the Park” on May 19
