
Good Samaritan Stabbed at Veterans Memorial Park After Intervening in “Planned Attack”

Bergenfield NJ, A Friday night basketball game at Veterans Memorial Park in Bergenfield turned violent when an 18-year-old New Milford resident was stabbed twice in the chest while trying to protect another teenager.
According to Bergenfield Police, the incident occurred following a pickup basketball game on the night of August 28. Authorities reported that two Bergenfield teenagers had orchestrated a “planned attack” targeting a 17-year-old resident from Dumont.
When the 18-year-old bystander stepped in to intervene and de-escalate the situation, he was stabbed.
Emergency Response and Suspect Apprehension
Police officers responded to the scene at approximately 8:44 p.m. Emergency medical personnel transported the injured 18-year-old to Hackensack University Medical Center. Bergenfield Police Captain William Duran confirmed in a statement that the victim was admitted in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses at the park provided officers with a description of the fleeing suspects and their vehicle, a 2009 gray Nissan Altima.
Using the witness statements, local police located the vehicle and apprehended the two suspects shortly after the attack took place.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
Both suspects were taken into custody and face juvenile delinquency complaints. They are currently being held at the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center.

16-Year-Old Male: Charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and tampering with physical evidence.

17-Year-Old Male: Charged with simple assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
Bergenfield Police emphasized that all charges are formal accusations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
