RIDGEWOOD, NJ & MIDLAND PARK, NJ — As part of an ongoing initiative to deliver high-quality drinking water and modernize local infrastructure, Ridgewood Water will soon initiate a major water main improvement project along Glen Avenue, stretching from Highwood Avenue in Midland Park to Oak Street in Ridgewood.
Construction is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, September 21, 2026, starting on the Midland Park side. The project is expected to take four to six months to complete, with work occurring on weekdays between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Final full-roadway paving is targeted for spring or summer 2027.
What the Glen Avenue Water Project Entails
The primary objective of this project is to replace and upsize aging water mains and update utility service connections located within the public right-of-way.
-
Temporary Water Systems: Homes located within the active construction zone will be connected to a temporary above-ground water system while the primary water lines are replaced.
-
Advance Homeowner Notification: Project contractor Montana Construction, Inc. will contact impacted homeowners directly before switching their water service over to the temporary supply.
-
Service Line Replacement: Following main installation, Montana Construction will coordinate with individual property owners to replace the utility-owned portion of the water service line.
-
Property Restoration: Disturbed lawn areas, driveways, sidewalks, and surrounding features will be restored by the contractor once work concludes in each section.
Expected Traffic Delays, Detours, and Road Closures
Because of the scope of this project, motorists should prepare for traffic disruption along Glen Avenue during construction hours:
-
Expect Delays & Use Alternate Routes: Drivers are advised to budget extra travel time or plan alternate routes around Glen Avenue between Highwood Ave and Oak St.
-
Local Resident Access: Residents living within the active construction footprint will maintain access to their driveways and homes throughout the day.
-
Daily Road Openings: Streets will reopen to standard traffic at the conclusion of each workday after 6:00 PM.
