
Five Injured in Serious Head-On Collision in Hawthorne

HAWTHORNE, NJ — A severe head-on crash on Thursday morning, September 3, 2026, left five individuals injured at a busy Passaic County intersection.
Emergency units were dispatched to the scene following a violent two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Lafayette Avenue and Van Winkle Avenue in Hawthorne.
Multi-Agency Emergency Response and HazMat Cleanup
The impact caused extensive front-end damage to both vehicles, requiring an immediate multi-agency emergency response.

Victim Transportation: Three ambulances were dispatched to transport the five injured individuals to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for medical treatment.

Responding Agencies: Emergency responders included the Hawthorne Police Department, Hawthorne Fire Department, Hawthorne EMS, Passaic County Sheriff’s Office EMS, and Valley Hospital EMS & Paramedic units.

HazMat Containment: Hawthorne firefighters worked to contain and clean up a minor Hazardous Materials (HazMat) fluid spill resulting from the crash.
Both heavily damaged vehicles were subsequently towed from the intersection to clear the roadway for traffic.
