Teaneck Police Arrest Paterson Man Following Viral YouTuber “Sting” Incident

TEANECK, NJ — Following widespread media inquiries and the viral surge of an online video, Teaneck Police Chief Seth B. Kriegel announced the arrest of Jose Aquino-Arias, 33, of Paterson, New Jersey, for Obstructing the Administration of Law.
According to a press release issued on Sept. 3, the charges stem from a May 24 incident where Aquino-Arias fled on foot from responding Teaneck police officers following a 911 call.
Viral YouTube Video Triggers Investigation
The 911 call was placed by members of a private citizen group that poses as minors online to confront individuals suspected of seeking sexual encounters with underage individuals. The group recorded the confrontation and uploaded the footage to YouTube on Aug. 30.
The video was published by Omma, a YouTube channel with 1.37 million subscribers, where it quickly accumulated over 255,000 views within days.
Teaneck Police Warn Against Civilian “Sting” Operations
In light of the video’s rapid circulation, the Teaneck Police Department issued a formal statement strongly discouraging the public from conducting private vigilante operations or stings.
While acknowledging the vital importance of protecting children from exploitation, police officials emphasized the severe risks and complications associated with uncoordinated civilian actions:
