Group lacks enough signatures to put Bergen County Blue Law repeal on ballot

Bergen County voters won’t have the option of choosing to repeal the county’s blue laws on Nov. 5, after a petition to place the question on the ballot came up short by more than 50,000 signatures. On Monday, the group behind the measure to roll back the laws officially conceded defeat.

Modernize Bergen County, a group looking to repeal the laws that prohibits selling electronics, clothing, furniture and other goods on Sunday, said they collected 2,706 signatures of residents in favor of repealing the law – short of the required number to place a question on the ballot.
