Tayler Tai enjoyed every minute of the 80 hours she devoted to earning her Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Scout can receive. Her leadership project was to raise awareness about organ donations by attending health fairs and other events where she could speak about the NJ Sharing Network, a cause that interests her on a very personal level.

“I was born with a hole in my heart,” she said. Surgery, when she was only 3 years old, repaired the hole and prevented further damage.

“If I hadn’t had the surgery, there was a possibility that the hole could have gotten bigger and caused bigger issues. It could have led to me needing a transplant,” she explained.
