Procession for Fallen Waldwick Police officer
July 21,2014
Ridgewood Police Department
Ridgewood N, The Waldwick Police Department would like to thank all of our residents, neighbors and friends for their support during this difficult time. The outpouring of that support has been incredibly comforting to Officer Goodell’s family and his police department family.
On Monday July 21, 2014 at 1pm, there will be a procession to bring Officer Goodell to St. Luke’s Church on Franklin Tpke in HoHoKus. The procession will enter Waldwick from Wyckoff, via Wyckoff Avenue. It will continue on Wyckoff Avenue to Hopper Avenue and turn left; continue to Franklin Turnpike in Allendale and make a right; continue to Grove Street and make a left turn; right turn onto Centre Street and a right turn onto E.Prospect Street. The procession will stop for a brief pause in front of the Public Safety Building, before making a left turn onto Franklin Turnpike and continuing to St. Luke’s Church. Visitation will begin at approximately 2pm. It is recommended that anyone wishing to view the procession should assemble in front of Waldwick High School or in the area of the Public Safety Building.
Over the past several days, we have been preparing for Officer Goodell’s services with the assistance of countless local and county agencies. The wake will be from 2pm to 9pm on Monday and the Funeral Mass will be at 11am on Tuesday, both at St. Luke’s Church in HoHoKus. It is anticipated that several thousand people will be paying their respects to Officer Goodell on Monday and Tuesday. That being said, traffic and parking are going to be issues that we all need to contend with. There will be traffic delays and periodic road closures. We have arranged for Bergen Community College to be the main parking area for anyone wishing to attend the services. Buses will be available to transport people to and from St. Luke’s Church. We have made special parking and transportation accommodations for Waldwick residents only. In order to ease our transportation concerns, we are asking that everyone adhere to the plans that we have prepared.
a tragic accident…..and not 2nd degree vehicular homicide.
yes very sad.
Catching speeders during the overnight is like shooting fish in a barrel.
Greed
Tragic yes, Truck drivers need to be alert especially at night . Stay in their lanes Never a need to be on shoulder unless stopping for an emergency.
#4, what if he was trying to pull off to the shoulder to check out a mechanical issue? That is a blind turn, and the cop was sitting there on the shoulder right next to the road.
Sorry for him and his family, and I hope this serves as a lesson to other police who think hiding around blind turns on busy highways is a good idea.
To see Waldwick yesterday, you would think the guy died saving humanity from an alien invasion. One the contrary, he was putting others at risk in pursuit of a couple speeding tickets. Had it been a mid size car pulling over to take an important call or check a tire, there would have been two deaths reported.
They are going to try to crucify the truck driver, too. What a load of BS.
#5 you sound like a miserable malcontent who has no respect for honor and duty. I would venture a guess if you passed away at you job no one would give damn and that upsets you to no end.
yes this is sad for the all of us.
but I hope no other police do this, no cop should be parked on any hi way in the state doing speed checks in the dark with no lights on. if you look up the law , the officer should have lights on at all times. if he was parked on the side street he would of bin safe. this is a wake up call for all of us.look it sucks I get it. my pals are cops and I don’t think they will do this any more. they need to go home at the end of the day.
Greed….it’s a state highway, let the County or State storm troopers take care of the speeders….
#6, yes, so much honor and duty to be had, sitting on the side of rt 17 in the middle of the night.
And you are wrong on all counts. I would be remembered well on three continents. I’m fine with that.
Yes #6 you would be remembered on three continents. They would happy that your gone.
Could the level of discourse rise to at least sixth grade, please?
