Reader says This council really has there heads up there asses.
Now all the town parking lots are empty.I guess that is what they wanted less revenue from the parking meters. Well they got it. No parking meters in Allendale!

Well the President of the Chamber of Commerce and its members think that it will help the CBD businesses. I would think they would know.
Earth calling. Earth calling. People really don’t shop in small downtowns like Ridgewood anymore. Perhaps a cup of coffee or a bite to eat, mail a letter, manicure, haircut, etc. If retailers think that the reason people aren’t shopping in their stores in due to bad meter control, then they really are delusional and out-of-touch with new shopping trends.
Declan I do agree with you but the president of the chamber and it members along with this council disagree and for now the are running the show. In 5-10 years when the CBD collapse under the weight of higher property taxes, greedy landlords and political agendas they will not be around to be held accountable
I do not know about anyone else but since they changed some of the parking rules in the parking lots i find it much easier to find a spot. I also believe a garage at Hudson street is an excellent spot if for only one reason the entire lot is an eyesore.
So JJJ why don’t we just clean it up or maybe you like bonding 5 million for a garage.
If our Mayor say to do it then it ok with me because he know what good for us. After all he’s be here in Ridgewood most of his life.
Building a garage is akin to thinking “if you build it they will come”. They won’t. There is a seismic shift going on all over the world in how people are shopping. It’s not happening overnight, but it’s still happening. Even malls, with all their conveniences and free parking, are having to come up with ingenious ways of attracting shoppers. Some malls are being demolished.
A garage would be an enormous waste of money. Money we don’t have, and I suspect will be be riddled with the classic New Jersey deal-making that would go into its financing and construction.
parking lots are empty? Great…guess there is no more parking problem so now can we quit talking about it?
They got my families 750.Over double old rates for lot pass I objected whole town is locked up with unfriendly signage. Too much downside on this deal for the merchants
Stopped downtown on Wednesday. Every spot along Ridgewood Ave in front of Van Neste Square was open. I pulled right into another spot on South Walnut right in front of the store I needed to go to.
I’ve never run into a problem finding a spot in town at worst, I will need to walk a block or two.
Get out and walk!
“Get out and walk.” is exactly the reason that many older people don’t shop or eat in Ridgewood. Most of my older friends, who eat out regularly, won’t come to Ridgewood if you paid them. Only a few restaurants and stores are near parking lots. The handicapped places on most streets have been removed. The many planters and other obstacles may look pretty but are hard to walk around.
Ah the senior citizen card has been played.
