The Ridgewood Municipal Alliance is stepping up efforts to educate parents on teen substance abuse based on what they see as a rise in binge drinking.
Starting with a town hall-style meeting to be held at Ridgewood High School (RHS) on Thursday, Oct. 27, a new subcommittee within the organization – made up of parents and representatives from other local organizations – plans to attack the problem of teen binge drinking on two fronts. The group will provide alternative activities for teenagers on weekends and create a tighter network of parents to prevent and act on potential incidents.
Sheila Brogan, chairperson of the Ridgewood Municipal Alliance, said the new efforts stem from a meeting held in September when it was decided something more needed to be done before potential tragedies strike the community.
