Reader says the only flag I want to see in the middle of the village is the flag of the USA

So, someone who is gay feels very proud of himself. Fair enough, it is his business. Now to express his pride he wants a flag flying in the middle of the village. Why? Can’t I also have a flag flying for myself? I am very proud of being a straight man. Where is the equality here? I claim I am being discriminated if a rainbow flag goes up and mine doesn’t. The only flag I want to see in the middle of the village is the flag of the USA which represents the pride of all Americans be it straight, gay, yellow, brown, black, white or whatever you want to be. In my opinion if you feel like the US flag doesn’t represent you you need to fly your own flag in your property.

  1. The only flag I want to see at the municipal building is the official USA red, white and blue! It’s the law. No apologies needed.

    2013 New Jersey Revised Statutes
Title 40A – MUNICIPALITIES AND COUNTIES
Section 40A:12-23 – Display of flags on county and municipal buildings

40A:12-23. Display of flags on county and municipal buildings
The governing bodies of the respective counties and municipalities shall procure United States flags, flagstaffs and the appliances therefor for their particular county courthouse and the municipal buildings and shall display the flags upon or near said county courthouses and buildings during business hours and at such other times as the governing bodies may deem proper.

  2. this is so played out. time for a change. boring.

  3. James, you are so right in your opinion. Many brave men and women who served our country in the armed services have given their lives in support of that flag and all it stands for. May only the stars and stripes be flown in Ridgewood..

  4. Yes, stars and stripes, and I’d be OK with a state, county, or even (if it existed) town flag flying at our official government HQ. That is it. Please do not open this enormous can of worms and set a dangerous precedent. Whether someone (or the entire council) personally supports a certain group or view (let’s just say we all support civil and human rights, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights) is NOT RELEVANT to whether the flag should fly there.

  5. Too much drama. Stick to the American flag. We do not need to fly other flags.

Fly your special interest flags and banners on your own house.

  6. yes the event is boring at times. this should be about only the men and gals who gave it all for the usa, not all the other hype. how many fire trucks can u look at.
    thanks

  7. if it was not for valley’s money and in put i wonder what would change. it’s way over . make it smaller and too the point. flags and vets only. all the other stuff no one cares.
