Ridgewood NJ, We love the flowers but are the planters & large blooming plants stationed at corners on East Ridgewood Avenue in the Central Business District making it difficult for small pedestrians – children – approaching crosswalks to see approaching car,s and/or making it difficult for approaching cars to see them?

  1. This is your issue? What about the $4mn in property taxes Valley owes the Village if we could ever get around to challenging their “not-for-profit” status in the courts based on the Morristown precedent? Instead of barking at airplanes because we literally have nothing better to do with our time, let’s focus on the prize.

  2. James is right, this is potentially problematic.

Roberta, why don’t the flowers go in the tree wells where the soil is fresh and they are not near the corners. This makes so much more sense. There are these gorgeous flower pots, next to these ugly empty tree wells. In one case I saw the flower pot kind of cockeyed in a tree well, looking precarious and ridiculous. Save the flowers, they are spectacular. But either move them far from the corners, or but them in the tree wells.

    Duh

  3. The Chamber wants them there and that it. Whatever the Chamber and certain members want they get. Just look at the planter in front of Greek to me.

  4. I find them to be a huge hazard, especially at night. It is very hard to tell if it is a person at the corner or merely the tall extension from the planters. Since many, if not most, pedestrians simply walk into the street without looking, it can be very hard to spot them. This is especially true if one is making a right turn.

  5. well tell them to move them.

  6. what a move , not to smart.

  7. Aren’t these considered hazardous sight obstructions, which are a violation of Village Code?

  8. Forget about the flower pots… how about those illegal planters in front of Greek2Me ???
    (Oh right… those can stay)

  9. They will be moved after someone is killed.

I witnessed an elderly man trip and fall in a large recessed tree well on S. Broad St. last year. He nearly fell into the street and got dirt on him, but no apparent injury.

Negotiating the tables and chairs in front of restaurants has become an Olympic event. It’s hazardous beyond belief and more intimidating than joyous. Solution: I try never to go downtown for anything.
