Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Crew saw five of its 14 sculling boats make the finals and three boats finish in the top three at the 139th Royal Canadian Henley Regatta at St. Catharines, Ontario from August 6 – 13. The Henley, held annually in Martindale Pond next to Lake Ontario, is one of the most prestigious crew events in the world and, this year, featured nearly 2,000 entries from 120 clubs across seven countries and four continents.

The Ridgewood team was led by graduating senior rower Sam Boogaert and rising sophomore rower Will Nasr, who finished second overall in their respective races. Both athletes faced stiff competition in their respective U19 and U17 single mens categories, with Boogaert racing against 76 other rowers and Nasr competing against 55 others.

Ridgewood’s U17 quad men’s boat, which included Nasr, Will Carroll, Lucas Evers, and Tristan Riedel, came in third place overall out of 28 boat entries. Riedel is a rising freshman.

Graduating seniors Nate Harris and Thomas Clark, in their final competition with Ridgewood Crew, pulled in a fifth-place finish in the U23 double mens race, out of 28 boats. Harris and Boogaert will continue to row in college.

Ridgewood’s lone finalist from the women’s team, Emma Mohanram, finished sixth overall in the U17 single women’s race in competition with 56 boats.

All races were held on a 2,000-meter course, the standard for international competition.

Billed as “one of the world’s marquee rowing competitions, and the top amateur rowing event in North America,” the Henley runs for a full week every August. The competition was temporarily paused on its next to last day this year due to severe weather, before finishing as scheduled on August 13.
