Ridgewood Nj, hey what about those mail in ballots ? The COVID-19 pandemic drastically reshaped how millions of Americans voted, as governors and election officials adjusted voting rules to reduce crowds at polling places. This resulted in 69% of voters in the 2020 election casting their ballots either by mail or early in-person—a dramatic shift that highlighted both the advantages and the vulnerabilities of these voting methods.
According to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, almost 15 million mail-in ballots were “unaccounted for,” meaning they were delivered to the US Postal Service but never made it back to be counted. Considering that recent presidential elections have been decided by margins of fewer than 100,000 votes, this is a significant figure.
For example, in Arizona, where Joe Biden’s margin of victory was just over 10,000 votes, Maricopa County reported 110,092 ballots sent to outdated or incorrect addresses. Similarly, in Nevada, Biden’s winning margin was just under 34,000 votes, but Clark County recorded 93,279 ballots as “unaccounted.” Complicating this issue further, the Postal Service flagged around 1.1 million ballots as undeliverable in 2020.
Growing Concerns: Automatic Voter Registration and Absentee Ballots
The 2020 election showed how discrepancies in voter registration lists could lead to problems in states that automatically mail absentee ballots to registered voters. Voters who have moved or are listed in duplicate on voter rolls might receive multiple ballots, while households with deceased individuals may also receive ballots.
As more states implement automatic voter registration, these discrepancies could become more common, requiring both state and federal officials to prioritize security and ensure all ballots are sent to the right voters.
The Path Forward: Accountability and Oversight
To maintain voter trust, election security will be critical in upcoming elections. This includes ensuring accurate voter rolls, securing mail-in ballot procedures, and recruiting election observers who can monitor ballot processing.

Fraudulent election
But whose ballots were unaccounted for? Republican or Democrat? Shouldn’t jump to the conclusion that it was just one party in particular or even fraud. Just a thought.
