Alleged Bergenfield Drug Dealer Charged in OD Death of Hackensack Man

Hackensack NJ, the Hackensack Police Department announces the arrest of Stevie J Killins, AKA Stevie J Bease of Bergenfield, NJ on several criminal charges stemming from a sudden death investigation in January.

On January 28, 2023, Patrol Officers responded to a report of 34 year old male deceased in his home. Officers observed illegal narcotics around the decedent. Investigation by Det. Raneli, Killins was identified as the party that supplied the decedent with the illegal narcotics.
On March 3, 2023 Members of the Hackensack Police Department’s Crime Suppression Bureau in conjunction with the Hackensack Police Dept ESU, Bergen County Prosecutors Office and Bergenfield Police Dept, executed a search warrant on the residence of Killins. Narcotics, namely heroin and prescription pills, were located and Killins was taken into custody without further incident.
Killins was criminally charged with a strict liability death / 2C:35-9a (first degree crime), 5 counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance / 2C:35-10a(1) (3rd degree crimes) and 5 counts of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance / 2:35-5a(1) (3rd degree crimes). These charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Killins was processed and transported to the Bergen County Jail on the charges.
“The tenacious efforts of our detectives, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Bergenfield Police Department – working as a team – is what led to not only a successful investigation, but one that will undoubtedly bring justice to what often are forgotten victims of crimes involving drugs”, said Hackensack Police Director Ray Guidetti.
