Hillsdale NJ, on Sunday, February 18th, 2024, at approximately 4:20 pm, Hillsdale Police Officers Marro #89 and Bruce #92 responded to the area of Hillsdale Avenue and Broadway for a male party, later identified as Daniel Margulies, who fled from the Walgreens in our jurisdiction with stolen goods. Both officers made initial contact with MARGULIES at the Hillsdale train station, but upon attempting to detain MARGULIES, MARGULIES fled from the officers.
After a brief foot pursuit, MARGULIES fled down Broadway northbound and started to jump into backyards. At this point, multiple police agencies were summoned to the area to create a perimeter. We also received information that MARGULIES was seen looking into vehicles, so a Police k-9 from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department was also called to the scene.
After approximately 25 minutes of searching, Officers spotted MARGULIES jumping into a dumpster in order to hide from the police. MARGULIES was found and placed under arrest by both of our officers with no further incident. After a brief search of the immediate area where MARGULIES was hiding, CDS and drug paraphernalia were found. MARGULIES was taken back to Hillsdale Police headquarters and processed. MARGULIES was subsequently charged accordingly for his actions and brought to the Bergen County jail.

We would also like to thank the Westwood, Emerson, Woodcliff Lake, Park Ridge, Old Tappan, Oradell, and Washington Township Police Departments and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance.
All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a Court of Law.
