Allendale NJ, the borough’s Land Use Board denied an application to install a second cell pole 172 feet from the first one, off West Crescent Avenue after two hearings this week. “I’m concerned with the number of variances,” Chairman Kevin Quinn told the Bergen Record . “If it was the right plan it wouldn’t need so many.” That’s nine variances in total requested to install the pole .
The 180-foot pole was proposed by World Class Wireless, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jump Trading. The pole was intended to hold parabolic antennas to facilitate line-of-sight microwave transmission of data between Secaucus and the New York Stock Exchange in Mahwah.
The installation was proposed on property owned by Borst Landscaping at 240 W. Crescent Ave. in the industrial park west of the intersection at West Crescent and Myrtle avenues. The World Class application states it made “numerous attempts” to rent space on borough property for the pole, but that officials “stopped responding to our requests.”

Bravo to Allendale board. Wireless towers in general but especially microwave ones are strong emitters of cancer causing waves and not only for the immediate households. I hope the residents have voiced their concerns.

You should be careful when making statements in support of your position. I presume you are more concerned with local aesthetics than ‘cancer’. If aesthetics are your issue, what about the thousands of telephone poles that populate nearly every street in town? They are ugly too, but their elimination would remove you from the power grid. But back to the topic of the antenna, just like you have done your studies by maybe reading NYT, I have done mine and very thoroughly. You like to trust the studies done by “scientists’ on mobile carriers payroll, fine with me. When I am looking to buy a house, I have a non compromising requirement that the house needs to be at least 200 feet away from any emission source. High powered electrical lines and microwaves are extremely dangerous especially to kids.
I don’t care about aesthetics, they can be hidden with fake greenery like they have in Crescent park which is at least a bit distanced from the nearest households.
