Teaneck NJ, a  highly controversial 68-unit apartment complex will replace a vacant office building on State Street. The township’s Zoning Board voted 6-1 Thursday night to give a developer the approvals needed to go ahead with the project, over the objections of massive resident protests.
The group Teaneck East Votee Neighborhood Assn has raised concerns about adding to the neighborhood’s density. The vote came after half a dozen hearings spread across nearly a year. Board member Monica Honis cast the sole vote against the project.

As far back as November the group organized protests  reporting on their Facebook page  ,”Teaneck Residents Demonstrate for Quality of Life.
This morning from 8-10AM about 40 residents from the Northeast and other parts of town showed up in 25 degree weather to protest development in the NE Plaza area. The demonstration was organized by the North East Teaneck Block Presidents Association. Residents of all ages, race and religions showed up to be heard. Focused mainly on quality of life and development that is being proposed that does not follow the Master Plan and against “Zoning by Variance.” The message was “We want to be heard.” Our efforts will continue. Thank you all for coming out.”

On  December 5th Teaneck’s Board of Adjustment meeting led to a 9-2 vote in favor of granting all the variances for 100 State St.  On the groups page said ,”This could be a sign of more high rise, luxury development in the NE. A few of us picketed outside and then held our signs up during the meeting and when they voted. Yes we lost this one, but made good progress in educating our community about who is behind this and who will profit from the development. We are better organized and also mobilized 200+ residents to come out against this “zoning by variance” dance approved by the Council majority.”

  1. They’ll be voting in Trenton this week to give illegal aliens licenses which will attract even more people to the state and the town. Think they won’t need more stack and pack buildings? Think again. Don’t like it………….call your legislators or just sit back , moan and groan and do nothing.

  2. What no one talks about but the type of voter who moves into high density has different objectives than one buying a single gmfamilt home. In Ridgewood we had a mayor who had run ymtwicevfor Congress and lost twice in part because single family homeowner types didn’t buy off on his program. So once in Ridgewoid the push began for high density housing, large garages, bike paths… all things that appeal to the kind of voter who would support him in another run for Congress. Things blew up before he got his wish but the move to making Ridgewood a different kind of community had already gone too far.would be surprised if Teaneck was not similar.

  3. NOT TO WORRY !!!
    .
Ridgewood WON’T be fighting High Density Urbanization.
