Another Car Towed in Ridgewood

Photos and commentary by Boyd Loving

Ridgewood NJ, In what has seemingly become an all too common occurrence, an illegally parked vehicle that was blocking a driveway entrance on North Walnut Street, leading to a private parking lot behind 119-133 East Ridgewood Avenue, was towed from the scene under police guard after having been issued multiple parking violation summonses. Individuals waiting to enter/leave the parking lot were inconvenienced, the vehicle’s owner must now deal with the expense and inconvenience of recovering his/her vehicle (and paying the associated parking fines), and a police officer was tied up during the vehicle impound process.

This and similar incidents that have occurred on Cottage Place, Oak Street, and Chestnut Street, may have all been prevented. However, for some unknown/inexpiable reason, Ridgewood Village Engineer Christoper Rutishauser has steadfastly refused to have yellow hash marked “parking control” boxes painted on the pavement in front of private driveway entrances such as the one on North Walnut Street. Nearby Ho-Ho-Kus has several of these simple and inexpensive “parking control” schemes in use within their business district along Sheridan Avenue (see attached photos).

Just what is Mr. Rutishauser’s objection to such an idea? Is it no good only because he didn’t think of it?

  1. There is no curb, it has yellow paint marking the width, there are no meters and they were blocking a private parking area.

Hook E’m. Who cares about the car owner’s expense.

We Need to stop micromanaging village employees

  2. 10:31 am – Just curious. Do you work for fat boy?

  3. Totally agree with the above comment. No sympathy for the car’s driver. Only a complete idiot would decide to park in that spot.

  4. It happens there at least once a week. Time for fat boy to apply some paint.

  5. Why is a resident’s suggestion for an inexpensive improvement being categorized as “micromanaging” a Village employee? Sounds like this comment comes from a Village employee who believes that once he/she was hired, they don’t have to listen to anybody, even the Village Council. In the private sector, you’d have been fired a long time ago my friend.

  6. Mr. Rutishauser’s inappropriate, insensitive, and racially charged public diatribe regarding foliage that grows in “ghettos” offers a big clue as to why a suggestion from Mr. Loving may have been summarily dismissed.

  7. More man bites Dog reporting..meanwhile the 2017 parking fiasco gets snuggled under the more along rabble.. rug..look at the train lot during winter school holiday week.and this summer…it’s less than half full and no upgrades for the common $750 permit folk..only in Ridgewood would premium spots go to the rich..was a naked Rip off, that’s a fact..

  8. 10:31. I think that “fat boy” is a running joke in your head.

I guess that you are taking a shot at a village employee that you don’t like.

The ordinance calls for a tow. The car owner clearly deserved it. Let the town employees do their job.

  9. That car crossed the Rubicon.

  10. How about Parking on a street with no signs and my car being towed for no reason explanation for that anyone ?
