Paramus NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of ROBERT STEVENS (DOB: 1/17/1958; single; unemployed) of 87 Graham Terrace, Saddle Brook, NJ on two charges of Assault By Auto. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Paramus Police Department under the direction of Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.
At approximately 5:16 p.m. on June 11, 2021, the Paramus Police Department received a report of a head-on collision on Paramus Road near the intersection of Alpine Drive. Responding officers located two vehicles, a 2010 BMW X5 and a 2019 Honda CRV with obvious front-end damage which was fully engulfed in flames. All parties involved had been removed from the vehicles by good Samaritans and an off-duty detective from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Detective Douglas Rager, prior to police arrival. The driver of the BMW, ROBERT STEVENS, and a 58-year-old male passenger who suffered bodily injuries, were both transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. The passenger has since been released from the hospital. The driver of the Honda, a 44-year-old female, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center with serious bodily injuries and remains hospitalized in stable condition.
As a result of the investigation, ROBERT STEVENS was arrested on June 11, 2021, and charged with Assault By Auto, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(2), a 3rd degree crime; and Assault By Auto, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1c(2), a 4th degree crime. In addition, he was served with motor vehicle summonses for Driving While Intoxicated, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-50, and Reckless Driving, in violation of N.J.S.A. 39:4-96. STEVENS is scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, New Jersey on Friday, June 25, 2021.
Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and he would also like to thank the Paramus Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
I rode my bike past the spot of the crash. The road was scorched.
Glad that the police made an arrest here.
Paramus PD should have a presence on this road but they don’t.
DWI ? The accident occurred a little after 5pm. Did they golf and then play the 19th hole ?
My sister lives in Paramus on Lynwood Avenue and Paramus Road, and that border of Paramus is always forgotten by the town. Every time there’s a problem there Ridgewood services always shows up first. Meanwhile it’s Paramus.
