Ridgewood NJ, Join the Ars Musica Chorale on May 6th at 7:30pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood as they feature two of Brahms’ greatest works: Schicksalslied & Nänie.

Schicksalslied, the Song of Destiny, was composed in 1868, and the text is based on a poem by Friedrich Hölderlin. The poem reflects on the nature of fate and the human condition, and Brahms’ setting of it is characterized by his typically rich harmonies and expressive melodies.
Nänie, A Requiem For Those Who Have Passed Away, was composed in 1881 and is based on a poem by Friedrich Schiller. The text laments the passing of loved ones and reflects on the fragility of life. Brahms’ setting of the text is poignant and reflective, with soaring choral lines and a beautifully crafted orchestration.
