Ridgewood — Aloysius Donohue, operating principal with Keller Williams Village Square Realty, has been elected to serve his sixth consecutive term as president of LeTip of Ridgewood and Glen Rock, a local business networking group with 40+ members. The chapter, which meets weekly to exchange business leads, is a local branch of the premier business networking organization, LeTip International.

“Al has defined himself as an outstanding businessman and leader, time and time again,” said LeTip member Gregg Trentham, a Glen Rock resident and financial advisor with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney. “He has established solid, long term relationships with his real estate clients, and this is clearly reflected in his leadership of our group. He earned this spot because he has members’ undivided trust and support.”

>Questions about the calculator that the school district requires in the high school:

They ask that the students purchase the TI Nspire calculator. There are three models that I have seen for $139 – $159. The calculators need to be recharged, much like a cellphone. Can’t wait to see the panic during the SAT when a calculator dies. There is software in i, graphics and even a color screen. I am sure that the batteries will be dying while in use.

Does the school district get money or products from Texas Instruments in return for requiring this calculator? Is it really that much better than the TI 84? And do they require the regular or 84 keypad? Feel free to spend my money.

Montclair parking system goes digital, allows people to pay meters via cell phone

MONTCLAIR — At Fumé in Montclair, customers frequently run in and out of the cigar shop on Bloomfield Avenue to check the time on the parking meter.
Locals go there for a smoke, and to gossip, so Montclair’s new initiative to let people pay for parking via a cell phone is a welcome change, Ralph Alberto, the shop’s owner, said Monday.

“I think it will help my business a great deal. It seems like a great idea,” he said, smoking a Dominican cigar with his buddies on a bench outside the store.
To use the new parking system, which went active May 23 and was formally announced Monday, a customer must download a smartphone app or call a phone number to park. The customer registers a username and leaves a credit card number on file with the company managing the system, Parkmobile. The app works on BlackBerrys, iPhones and Droids.

Some Ridgewood residents have not received notification calls made by Bergen County Emergency Management. In the future if you would like to be sure that your phone number is on their list, this information may be of interest to you.

To be included on the BC Emergency Management system, go to their website at www.bcoem.org and click on the link for Emergency Notification. You will be prompted to set up an account where you can select from several contact options and filter for different categories of alerts. There is also an option to add contact information for caregivers and family members outside of the emergency call area.

Once your account is established you may log in at any time to verify your information and to make changes.

Consumer-driven healthcare plans — plans with high out-of-pocket costs but lower premiums — grew 13.9 percent in the last year, a slower rate of growth than experienced between 2009 and 2010, according to preliminary results from United Benefit Advisors’ “2011 UBA Health Plan Survey”.

CDHPs now represent nearly 23 percent of health plans offered. The Northeast had the largest concentration of CDHPs (31.3 percent), followed by the Southeast region (27.4 percent). The average cost increase for all CDHPs was 8 percent, which was slightly lower than the average cost increase of all plan types of 8.2 percent.

Other key findings from the survey include:

•    PPO plans have nearly two-thirds of all enrolled employees (64.4 percent).
•    The average employee contribution for plans with contributions for all plan types is $117 for single and $467 for family.
•    Four-fifths of all wellness plans (80.6 percent) offered a health risk assessment.
•    As a direct result of health care reform criteria, 81.3 percent of all plans now offer an unlimited lifetime maximum benefit compared to just 16.1 percent in 2010.
