the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Wildscape Association conducted its  annual community wide cleanup was a big success on Sunday, October 6th.  In spite of the drizzle over 40 good-spirited adults and children worked steadily for two hours, cleaning up debris from mysterious Gypsy Pond.
many of which had never seen the pond. This was the third cleanup by the Ridgewood Wildscape Association .

The “loot” included  28 large contractor sized bags(filled with plastics, styrofoam, cans, items too dirty to recycle) propane tank, tarps, sleeping bag, pipes, crates, balls, lots of plastic, 8 tires, etc.  The prize was a 250lb bridge which the guys hauled out of the water and up the hill.

The Ridgewood Wildscape Association would like to thank the Village for providing equipment and hauling the debris away to the landfill, with some of the larger metals to be recycled.

The Ridgewood Wildscape Association would also like to thank to all of those who helped!

Three North Jersey men — including a career burglar with ties to the James Bond Gang — were arrested early Friday after an 11-month investigation into more than 40 burglaries committed in at least five states, authorities said.

Daniel “Tokyo” Gatson, 41, of North Bergen; Curtis Dent, 34, of Roselle; and Mark Gonzalez, 31, of East Orange were charged with multiple counts of conspiracy and transportation of stolen goods in interstate commerce related to the residential burglaries, which stretched from Georgia to Long Island in the past year, authorities said.

Investigators believe the defendants were responsible for “in excess of a $1 million worth of stolen proceeds, cash and jewelry,” said Steven Cucciniello, chief of detectives for the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Prosecutor’s Office launched the investigation in December 2012, bringing in police departments in Bergen County, Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI.

Bergen County Executive Kathleen Donovan won a temporary restraining order Friday against the freeholder-approved re-write of the county code that she contends illegally tries to curb the powers of her office.

Bergen County Superior Court Judge Menelaos W. Toskos issued an order that temporarily prevents an ordinance that the freeholders adopted by a 6-1 vote on Sept. 17 from taking effect.

The ordinance, which was to go into effect Saturday, explicitly gave the freeholders the power to reorganize county government and investigate how it is run. Donovan contends they do not have that power under the county executive form of government.

Toskos delayed the ordinance from taking effect until a further hearing on Oct. 31, when he will listen to arguments from both sides.

TSA Loudspeakers Threaten Travelers With Arrest For Joking About Security

Prisoner training: Don’t complain about your grope down

Paul Joseph Watson
Infowars.com
October 11, 2013

Travelers who crack jokes about the TSA’s ludicrous security procedures could face arrest, according to a new loudspeaker warning being broadcast at airports in the U.S.

While traveling through George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Matt Miller heard a security announcement repeatedly aired on the airport intercom that left him disturbed.

“You are also reminded that any inappropriate remarks or jokes concerning security may result in your arrest,” the loudspeaker message states.

These new loudspeaker warnings remind us that the TSA continues to excel at indoctrinating Americans to be well-behaved prisoners via obedience training – reminding them that they can be disappeared if they dare speak out of turn, even in a humorous way.

Al Sharpton, ‘PoliticsNation’ Advertisers Targeted in New Boycott
by David Freedlander Oct 7, 2013 5:45 AM EDT

A new group bent on unmasking ‘leftists in the media’ has its first target—MSNBC’s ‘racial extortionist,’ the Rev. Al Sharpton. David Freedlander talks with the leader of the right’s answer to Media Matters.

A group of conservative activists, tired of what they see as a persistent and little remarked liberal bias in the news media, are set to begin a series of boycotts aimed at advertisers who sponsor what they see as left-wing networks, outlets, and journalists.

We paid $634 million for the Obamacare sites and all we got was this lousy 404
By Andrew Couts  —   October 8, 2013

It’s been one full week since the flagship technology portion of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) went live. And since that time, the befuddled beast that is Healthcare.gov has shutdown, crapped out, stalled, and mis-loaded so consistently that its track record for failure is challenged only by Congress.

The site itself, which apparently underwent major code renovations over the weekend, still rejects user logins, fails to load drop-down menus and other crucial components for users that successfully gain entrance, and otherwise prevents uninsured Americans in the 36 states it serves from purchasing healthcare at competitive rates – Healthcare.gov’s primary purpose. The site is so busted that, as of a couple days ago, the number of people that successfully purchased healthcare through it was in the “single digits,” according to the Washington Post.

Million Vet March on the Memorials

Million Vet March on the Memorials
October 10,2013
by Ron DuBois

There will be many Veteran Marches this Sunday, October 13th.  Groups wanted to form a Million Veterans March on Washington, which may have been done if it was for the end of October or beginning of November. I don’t know why they didn’t wait, or even who, specifically, planned this. But for impact, the main March will be in Washington, and people who can’t get there on such short notice will meet at local Memorials in their home States. In NJ, it’s 9 AM at the Viet-Nam Memorial on Garden State Parkway. I think it’s exit 115 or 117, but you can’t miss it. It’s clearly marked with a brown sign, and can be reached via either the local or express lanes, so don’t worry which you get off at.  Other information is within notice that I am forwarding.

All of this is mainly to protest the closing of the Memorials in Washington, especially when the WWII vets were there, while the National Mall (also officially closed) was opened only for use by thousands of illegal aliens to hold a rally. So the Obama Administration gave special privileges to illegal aliens, who broke our laws, making them criminals, –  and they behaved so badly that 150 had to be arrested. Note that over a five year period, millions of Tea Party members rallied in Washington, and there has never been any trouble and not a single arrest. Meanwhile, a long-planned visit by World War II veterans, most in their 80s and 90s, and many wheelchair-bound,were refused entry to pay their respects at the WWII and other Memorials. The outrage was magnified because those areas were outdoor public spaces, requiring no personnel, or cost, for the visit by the vets. Yet, the Administration actually ran up bills, to be paid by We The Taxpayers, by having the entire Memorial areas fenced off to keep the vets and the public away. Further, there are other areas in Washington, that are privately run, like Mount Vernon, and are separate from the other Memorials. You guessed it. The Obama Administration, although having no say over the running of these places, ordered them to also be closed and fenced off. It took strong reminders that they were private, before the Government took the fences down. (This same scenario has been played out in state parks, all over the country.) These closures are not by accident, and they have not been ordered to save any money; all of this was done to try and make the current shut-down of only 17% of the Government as annoying and frustrating as possible, to punish the people for not rallying harder in support of Obamacare – that the people don’t want anyway.

Join fellow veterans at the war memorials in Washington DC on Sunday October 13th at 9 AM or local marches in your area at 9AM EST/8AM CST/7AM MST/6AM PST. These memorials belong to the American veterans and people! For more information on rallying points, visit https://1mvetmarch.wordpress.com/rally/ .

FLAGS CONTINUE TO FLY AT HALF-STAFF TILL  OCTOBER 17

As per Executive Order from Governor Chris Christie, all flags will be flown at half-staff from Thursday, October 10, 2013, through Thursday, October 17, 2013, in recognition and mourning of a brave and loyal American hero, United States Army Staff Master Sergeant Nicholas Oresko, who was born in Bayonne in 1917 and was the oldest living Medal of Honor recipient. Master Sergeant Oresko joined the United States Army in March 1942. In 1945 he singlehandedly defeated two German bunkers in France, sustaining serious injuries but refusing to be evacuated until his mission was successfully accomplished. On October 30, 1945, President Harry Truman formally awarded him the Medal of Honor, the highest award bestowed upon members of the Armed Forces of the United States, in recognition of his heroic actions. Master Sergeant Oresko passed away on October 4, 2013, at the age of 96.

Rutgers study compares racial divide in N.J. schools to ‘apartheid’

Editors note : maybe its time for vouchers and school choice , liberals hate it but all kids deserve a quality education and lets face it , the Abbott schools have been a total failure

A new Rutgers University report on so-called apartheid schools in New Jersey says that 26 percent of black students and 13 percent of Latino students attend schools where 1 percent or fewer of the students are white.

The study argues that although New Jersey is a wealthy, mostly suburban state with a tradition of strong public schools, its black students face more extreme segregation than blacks in the South, where segregation was long mandated by law. It said another 21 percent of black students and 29 percent of Latino students in New Jersey attend “intensely” segregated schools where 10 percent of the students, or fewer, are white.

Most students in schools where the vast majority of students are black or Latino face poverty as well and grapple with enormous challenges in getting a decent education, a diploma and a seat in college.

The report is being released Friday by the Rutgers Institute on Education Law and Policy. One of its authors is Paul Tractenberg, the 75-year-old attorney who fought for decades in educational equity cases before the state Supreme Court.

OUCH: Just 51,000 people completed Obamacare applications during the website’s first week

OUCH: Just 51,000 people completed Obamacare applications during the website’s first week, out of tens of millions of Americans in 36 states

Obamacare’s main signup engine attracted just 6,200 new customers on its launch day and 51,000 after the first week
At the same rate, the 6-month open enrollment period would sign up just 2 million Americans, including 14 states and D.C., which have their own insurance exchanges
The Congressional Budget Office says Obamacare needs at least 7 million customers to stay afloat financially
Numerous Obama administration officials have denied seeing any enrollment figures at all
MailOnline’s sources are two Health and Human Services workers who have access to the data as it’s crunched
Texas congressman says anemic national enrollment numbers are ‘roughly the population of a small town in my district’

By David Martosko, U.s. Political Editor

PUBLISHED: 14:29 EST, 10 October 2013 | UPDATED: 15:44 EST, 10 October 2013

Just 51,000 people completed Obamacare applications during the first week the Healthcare.gov website was online, according to two sources inside the Department of Health and Human Services who gave MailOnline an exclusive look at the earliest enrollment numbers.

The career civil servants, who process data inside the agency, confirmed independently that just 6,200 Americans applied for health insurance through the problem-plagued website on October 1, the day it first opened to the public.

Neither HHS nor the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services would comment on the record about the numbers. Enroll America, the president’s organization of health care ‘navigators’ who are charged with helping Americans sign up, didn’t reply to a request for information about its level of success so far.

The White House also did not respond to emails seeking comment.

Ridgewood moves ahead with study of a shared garage

RIDGEWOOD — The council this week approved spending $2,600 on a study to determine whether it is possible to build a municipal garage in Glen Rock.

A location for the garage has been identified on Prospect Street in Glen Rock, where the Ridgewood Water Co. treatment plant is currently located.

Deputy Mayor Albert Pucciarelli said this week that the study will also provide an analysis of how trucks would turn around on the property.

The $2,600 the village is spending represents half of the $5,800 cost for the study. Pucciarelli said at the council’s meeting Wednesday night that Glen Rock would cover the other half.

The garage would benefit both the borough and the village, with both towns funding its operation.
