C’est la vie to Paris Trip

WESTWOOD NJ, A little out of our way but we think there is a moral to this story .

A group of Westwood Regional Junior/Senior High School students may be out thousands of dollars after booking a trip to France with a Virginia company that is going bankrupt, the Record reported.

The group of 13 girls and one boy each paid Maridan Travel USA $3,678 for a the trip which would have taken them to Paris. Some  even worked extra jobs to save money  for the trip.

Parents contacted the Ridgewood blog and said form the beginning the whole thing was a bit off. One parent told us that parents were asked to pay cash while others questioned weather the company really went bankrupt or not, still other ask why the schools would send business to a company with such a bad reputation ?

Worse yet some parents indicated they were pressured by the school system to keep quite on the matter .

The Record is reporting that Maridan president Nina Turek Skrpec was selling off assets to pay back the three groups whose trips were canceled, including the one from Westwood. Students trip. (https://www.northjersey.com/news/Dream_trip_to_France_goes_down_the_drain_for_Westwood_students.html)

Sex, money and lies: ‘Culture of Corruption’ boomerangs on Democrats as scandals blossom nationwide

By Valerie Richardson The Washington Times

The Democratic Party is battling scandals from New York to San Diego and from city hall to Capitol Hill, as the party finds itself on the defensive over embarrassing lapses ranging from sexual misconduct to multiple scandals ensnaring the Obama administration.

President Obama on Wednesday denounced what he called “phony scandals” and “an endless parade of distractions” blocking progress on the economy and other issues, but critics say the controversies underscore the missed opportunities for the president and his party to live up to pledges to clean up politics and break traditional patterns of money, influence and privilege in government.

The scandals have spanned the spectrum from a Democratic mayor in San Diego accused of being unable to keep his hands off his female aides to charges that the administration put the Internal Revenue Service on the trail of its political enemies.

One of Congress‘ most famous Democratic names, the scion of Jesse Jackson in Mr. Obama’s home city of Chicago, was just sent to prison for converting campaign funds to personal use. In Detroit, the ex-mayor and the wife of longtime House Judiciary Committee member John Conyers Jr. have fallen to corruption scandals, while the son of former Democratic Party Chairman Ron Brown admitted last month to bribery charges as a city councilman in the nation’s capital.

Longtime political analyst John Pitney Jr. said the Democrats’ woes can be viewed as examples of history repeating itself and how the enticements of Washington’s political culture can trip up the party in power.

No more mail at your door? Postal Service considers halting doorstep delivery
Wednesday, July 24, 2013    Last updated: Wednesday July 24, 2013, 11:44 PM
BY ANDREW MIGA
Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Door-to-door mail delivery is about as American as apple pie. With the Postal Service facing billions of dollars in annual losses, that tradition could be virtually phased out by 2022 under a proposal in Congress.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Wednesday approved a plan to move to cluster box and curbside delivery, which includes mailboxes at the end of driveways.

The proposal is part of broader legislation by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the oversight and government reform panel, designed to cut costs at the cash-strapped agency by up to $4.5 billion a year. The Postal Service had a $16 billion loss last year.

The bill was approved on a party-line vote, with 22 Republicans supporting it and 17 Democrats opposing it.

Postal Service spokesman David Partenheimer said the agency would evaluate Issa’s bill based on whether it would enable the agency to make $20 billion in savings by 2017.

“The Postal Service looks forward to working with Chairman Issa and the committee to improve the bill as it makes its way through the legislative process,” Partenheimer said.

Readers debate Mayors Hardship attending Christie Fund Raiser for Free

Readers debate Mayors Hardship attending Christie Fund Raiser for Free

I know for a fact what a “hardship” it was for our mayor to attend the Christie fundraiser photo op, on a ticket that he didn’t pay for.

or

Aronsohn loved rubbing shoulders with the celebrity governor. He thought with his ego when he accepted the invitation, not with his head. I guess there is no longer much room in his head for logical thinking with the huge ego squeezing everything else out.

He went, he enjoyed, he did not pay. It was not a hardship at all for him until it was pointed out that he should not have gone. Then suddenly it was an obligation and a hardship and he went only because he had to. Give us a break, we are smarter than that.

Reader Says Mr Mayor  If Saraceno had not included you, gratis, you never would have “gone as a courtesy.”

To quote you, I mean, the mayor, “When the governor comes to town, we go as a courtesy” who added that he wanted to make sure that “all of [Christie’s] needs were attended to.”

The governor didn’t “come to town” on a whim. John Saraceno solicited his campaign and promised to raised tens of thousands of dollars for his re-election coffers. (Just like he and John Johansen did for you last year…but with alot less zeros).

If Saraceno had not included you, gratis, you never would have “gone as a courtesy.” You wouldn’t have been there because the governor doesn’t know you exist. Your limitless hubris & self-importance is as nauseating and it is hysterical. As far as “attending to [Christie’s needs], he’s got people for that and you’re not one of them.

This was not “official business”, the event was a PRIVATE FUNDRAISER. So, if you did “attend to” his needs then perhaps it wasn’t quite the “hardship” you claimed. I can just see it now…..one of the most powerful men in politics says to his advisors “Get me to Ridgewood boys! This Aronsohn guy….I’ve gotta see how how he does it!!”
The cost of fixing John Saraceno’s flagpole, $2200….watching Paul Aronsohn step in s**t yet again….PRICELESS!

I’m shocked that they haven’t paid the $1,000 back already.

For all of the Richie bashing that the public endured over a similar sum, one would imagine that at least Aronsohn, Puciarelli and Hauck would have paid up at the first hint of protest.

For a bunch of politicians, how politically unsophisticated these people are. The longer they hold out, the longer they’re going to have to endure the wrath and ridicule of their own constituency.

I can’t believe that these neophytes get to vote on a smoking ban much less on the more critical issues this town faces.

Tri-Boro Shuttle helps riders reduce stress and save money

With the wheels now in motion for a year, officials say the Tri-Boro Shuttle, which provides a free roundtrip commute from the Ridgewood Train Station to the corporate office buildings in Park Ridge, Woodcliff Lake and Montvale, is starting to pick up some steam.

Ridership has experienced a steady month-to-month uptick since last year, according to recent statistics provided by Montvale Councilwoman Leah LaMonica.

The councilwoman said this year’s tally, compared to last year has increased by at least 200 passengers in March, April and May to 409 in March, 467 in April, and 416 in May. Despite a decrease of 104 riders in June as compared to last year, LaMonica said she attributes it to vacation season. She added the tallies don’t “deviate much except for winter months,” including January and February

Two Americans Added to Food Stamp Rolls for Every Job Administration Says It Created

Two Americans Added to Food Stamp Rolls for Every Job Administration Says It Created
July 23, 2013 – 1:21 PM

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said yesterday that the Obama administration has pulled the nation from the depths of the “Great Recession” with the creation of 7.2 million private sector jobs.

“And what is absolutely true is that we have come a long way since the depths of the Great Recession.  We’ve created over 7.2 million private sector jobs,” Carney told reporters at a press briefing.

Here’s what Mr. Carney didn’t say:

Since February of 2009, the first full month of Obama’s presidency, 9.5 million Americans have dropped out of the labor force.  Nearly 90 million Americans are not working today!

That means that 1.3 Americans have dropped out of the labor force for every one job the administration claims to have created.

There are 15 million more Americans on food stamps today than when Obama assumed office.

The Ridgewood News

Ridgewood officials and members of the business community are still mulling over potential changes to downtown parking meters and whether or not coin-fed machines should become a thing of the past.

Village Council members recently suggested that time limits on parking meters along Central Business District (CBD) side streets as well as Franklin Avenue should be extended from two to three hours. They also recommended that meters on East Ridgewood Avenue remain at a two-hour limit.

Records of Christine O’Donnell tax snooping disappear

Records of Christine O’Donnell tax snooping disappear
By Seth McLaughlin
The Washington Times

Delaware state officials have told Congress that they likely destroyed the computer records that would show when and how often they accessed Christine O’Donnell’s personal tax records and acknowledged that a newspaper article was used as the sole justification for snooping into the former GOP Senate candidate’s tax history.

The revelations to Sen. Chuck Grassley’s office came Tuesday as the Treasury Department’s inspector general for tax administration, the government’s chief watchdog for the Internal Revenue Service, formally reopened its investigation into the matter by re-interviewing Ms. O’Donnell.

Climate Change Hoax : Do Booker, Pallone, Oliver Agree “Millions Will Die” If “Nothing Is Done” about Climate Change?

July 23,2013

“Does Mayor Booker really think that millions will die if nothing is done [about climate change]? How about Congressman Pallone, who has championed cap-and-trade in Congress? What about Speaker Oliver, who has fought to preserve cap-and-trade in New Jersey over Governor Christie’s veto?” Lonegan asked.”

METUCHEN, NJ – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Steve Lonegan today called on candidates Cory Booker, Frank Pallone and Sheila Oliver to explain whether they agree with Democratic Rep. Rush Holt’s (NJ-12) controversial comments on climate change.

Lonegan’s comments came after Rep. Rush Holt put out a web video on climate change where he declared: “If nothing is done, millions will die.”

“The silly hysterical left-wing view that Congressman Holt expresses in his video is simply bizarre,” Lonegan said. “And I want to hear whether the other three Democrats share his extremist and over-the-top belief that millions will die if nothing is done.”

“Does Mayor Booker really think that millions will die if nothing is done? How about Congressman Pallone, who has championed cap-and-trade in Congress? What about Speaker Oliver, who has fought to preserve cap-and-trade in New Jersey over Governor Christie’s veto?” Lonegan asked.

“Do these three agree with Congressman Holt’s bizarre and hysterical threats? I believe they do, but I’d like to hear it straight from their own mouths.

“I would like to believe that since Mayor Booker, Congressman Pallone and Speaker Oliver all want to be members of the United States Senate, that they are capable of answering media questions without having to have staff tell them what to think by preparing written answers to very simple questions,” Lonegan noted.

The Barclays to stay in New Jersey from 2017-19
By Jason Sobel
Jul 23, 2013 1:58 PM ET

It appears The Barclays will be in a decidedly New Jersey state of mind late in this decade.

A contract is in place to bring the first tournament of the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoff series to three New Jersey-based courses for the years 2017-19, according to a multiple-sourced report from the Newark Star-Ledger.

Under terms of the contract, Liberty National Golf Club, which will host this year’s edition of the event, would again have the 2017 edition, followed by Ridgewood Country Club and Plainfield Country Club, each of which has played host to the tournament in previous years.

Ridgewood Police offer Motorcyclist Safety Tips

Office_BarGrill_Hosts_Annual-Bike_Show_the-ridgewood-blog.net_

file photo at The Office Bar & Grill Hosts 7th Annual Bike Show to benefit the Tomorrow’s Childrens Fund

Ridgewood Police offer Motorcyclist Safety Tips:

A motorcycle riders’ best defense against injury is to obey laws and wear protective clothing and equipment:

Helmet – In New Jersey, motorcyclists are required by law to wear a DOT (FMVSS 218) approved helmet.
Eye Protection – Glasses, Goggles or a Shield
Jacket – Sturdy, Long Sleeved and Abrasion-Resistant
Pants – Well-Fitting and Abrasion-Resistant
Footwear – Sturdy, Over-the-Ankle Boots
Hand Wear – Well-Fitting, Full-Fingered Gloves

Drive Defensively – Assume motorists do not see you and plan escape routes.
Make Yourself Visible – Wear bright colored and reflective clothing. Do not linger in “blind spots”. Adjust your lane position.
Give Yourself Time and Space to React – Do not tailgate. Use the “Two Second Rule” or the “Four Second Rule” to create space between you and vehicles ahead of you.
Avoid Sudden Braking or Turning When Driving on Wet Roads or Gravel – With only two tires, motorcycles have less tire traction than other vehicles.
Enhance Your Skills with Education – New Jersey offers various safety and skill courses, for riders new and old. For further information regarding motorcycle safety programs, please call NJ MVC (609) 633-9308, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Never drink alcohol or take medications while riding.
Never ride if you are tired.
