Sculptography – Mike Kortoci’s Unique Style of Visual Art

Sculptography – Mike Kortoci’s Unique Style of Visual Art

Since his introduction to the New York art scene as a gifted sculptor, Mike Kortoci has continued his ascent to his current position as an acclaimed and reputed photographer and studio owner, having opened his new business, Mike Kortoci Photography, in Glen Rock, NJ. No stranger to the area, Mr. Kortoci has held previous locations in both New York City and Ridgewood, NJ, before settling in his new, spacious studio nearby on South Broad Street in Glen Rock.

In the surrounding areas of Northern New Jersey, artists comparable to Mr. Kortoci’s distinctive style of precise lighting and evocative imagery are hard to come by. His work has gone on to receive praise from publications, such as Page Six of the New York Post, and he has been featured several times on national television, including appearances on the Bravo TV Network. While his list of impressive and famous clientele has included some of the top modeling agencies New York and several famed individuals, Mr. Kortoci frequently works with up and coming models as well as local residents and their families for portraits, more elegant shoots, and, his most recent addition, boudoir photos, should they be requested.

Seated in his expansive studio, which boasts two thousand square feet and overlooks the busy street from the second floor, it becomes hard to picture Mike Kortoci in his humble beginnings, working in a Manhattan residential building thirteen years ago, before a chance meeting with Victor Lownes, the Playboy mogul. Upon learning about Mr. Kortoci’s skill as a sculptor, Lownes commissioned a bronze bust of himself, meant to be displayed in his home. Lownes was so impressed by the sculpture Mr. Kortoci created that he commissioned yet another for his London home, and news began to spread about this latest artist whose work was garnering so much attention. This acclaim also followed his work in photography, which he’d been creating throughout this period of time, and he has since continued to grow his business and enjoy enormous success as a fashion and commercial photographer.

Mounted around the studio lounge, on every wall, patrons can observe Mr. Kortoci’s work, which focuses on black and white beauty images, or they can pour through books full of his photos as they curl up comfortably on black, leather furniture, soft ambient music playing throughout. Here, Mr. Kortoci happily discusses how his study and practice of sculpture has influenced his photographic perspective, particularly in lighting. He says, “In sculpture you have to learn about anatomy and how lighting a sculpture defines its form. Lighting can make or break an image. I can create twenty or more different images just by changing the lighting.”

Some of what he enjoys most, however, comes from creative photoshoots that he regularly undertakes and designs, on his own, for the purposes of trying new things and challenging himself artistically. He has emphasized repeatedly how important it is to continue to develop his own skills and expand upon his previous work rather than rest upon his rather extensive laurels, “You have to be endless…If you’re not constantly pushing and experimenting you cannot call yourself an artist. An artist should constantly be trying new things.”

Mr. Kortoci eagerly opens his doors to the merchants and residents of Bergen County who are looking for beautiful images, whether they wish to celebrate an occasion, a product, or simply want an elegant keepsake that they can cherish. Always welcoming new faces and clients, Mr. Kortoci is happy to discuss what he can create for every person’s specific needs. He says, “By documenting their beauty in a photoshoot, I can change the way people see themselves.” His work can be viewed at his website, https://mikekortociphotography.com and news about his latest projects can be seen on his blog at https://mikekortociphotography.com/blog/.

Scott Garrett tours district visiting local businesses
March 13,2013
the staff of the Ridgewood blog

Ridgewood NJ Representative Garrett toured the district talking to local business people and found on common theme ,that big goveremnt was making it ever harder to prosper .

” Given the state of our slow growing economy, I spent my most recent District Work Week visiting with local businesses. The theme, expressed by both the business owners and their employees, revolved around the ever increasing burden Washington is placing on them. The rightful appeal was for relief.

As you and I both know, small business is the engine that drives the American economy. The men and women I met with are the very same people who will help turn our economy around. It’s time for Washington to give them some help. I look forward to bringing their concerns to Washington, where I will continue to advocate for pro-growth policies.”

Urbanization: I went into the discussion unbiased, and came out furious with the idea of rezoning the town

Urbanization: I went into the discussion unbiased, and came out furious with the idea of rezoning the town.

I spent the morning in a Ridgewood resident’s home at a “coffee” with the Mayor to discuss the multi-family development projects with a group of residents. I went into the discussion unbiased, and came out furious with the idea of rezoning the town. I now believe the high density projects will ruin the town on so many levels, but most importantly our school system, parking and safety.

His claim is that changing the zoning laws for the developers (btw anyone can build a high rise once it is changed) will benefit businesses and a few mysterious “empty nesters” and retirees.  I find it hard to believe that people downsizing are willing to pay $3000 a month for a luxury one bedroom (that’s what they are asking for). I also find it hard to believe that an Applebees (proposed at the Brogan site) will help businesses like Daily Treat, Raymonds and East Coast Burger. I don’t know why the planning board would permanently change the master plan to appease a few developers and disregard the burden on our schools and infrastructure. Let them build, but they should work within existing zoning restrictions.

People should attend Tuesday nights 3/19/13 Planning Board Meeting for more information. This is the last public hearing until closed discussions begin in September, and the agenda is solely on the development projects. (Valley is going to take over planning meetings through June). Supposedly, at the last planning meeting on the subject, they almost put it to a vote right then and there. There is a feeling that they are trying to slip this through.

Prosecutor: Charges unlikely for Ridgewood students caught sending, sharing explicit pics
By Dan Ivers/NJ.com

RIDGEWOOD — Despite threats of prosecution from local law enforcement, one high-ranking official say Ridgewood High School students who do not turn over explicit images of classmates are unlikely to face any charges.

After two female students used the social media app Snapchat to share nude photos of themselves with older boys earlier this month, the images spread around the school, igniting a controversy that led Superintendent Daniel Fishbein and village police to demand the images be destroyed.

Students have been granted an “amnesty period” that lasts until Monday morning to destroy the pictures, or potentially face criminal penalties, officials said. Numerous media outlets have reported that students could face child pornography charges if they do not comply.

However, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli told NJ.com on Wednesday that a recent law aimed at easing penalties for teens who engage in “sexting” would almost certainly prevent any such charges from being enforced.

The law, New Jersey statute 2A:4A-71.1, requires that any juvenile caught with sexually suggestive or explicit materials must participate in “a remedial education or counseling program” at their own expense.

Origin of ” Beware the Ides of March”

theater-review-julius-ceasar-2011-7-29-17-0-9

Origin of ” Beware the Ides of March”

From Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, 1601. ‘Beware the Ides of March’ is the soothsayer’s message to Julius Caesar, warning of his death.

The Ides of March didn’t signify anything special in itself – this was just the usual way of saying “March 15th”. The notion of the Ides being a dangerous date was purely an invention of Shakespeare’s; each month has an Ides (often the 15th) and this date wasn’t significant in being associated with death prior to 1601.

Months of the Roman calendar were arranged around three named days – the Kalends, the Nones and the Ides – and these were reference points from which the other (unnamed) days were calculated:

Kalends (1st day of the month).
Nones (the 7th day in March, May, July, and October; the 5th in the other months).
Ides (the 15th day in March, May, July, and October; the 13th in the other months).

Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced the arrest of  Ridgewood, resident on charges of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor

Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli announced the arrest of JOSEPH NIZZA, Ridgewood, New Jersey, on charges of Endangering the Welfare of a Minor (specifically Possession of Child Pornography) and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor (specifically Transmission of Child Pornography). NIZZA was arrested without incident on Friday, March 15, 2013.

The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Task Force under the direction of Chief Steven CUCCINIELLO and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department Internet Crime Unit under the direction of Sheriff Richard BERDNIK.

The arrest stemmed from an Internet investigation in which Joseph NIZZA was using the Internet to acquire and transmit numerous images and video files depicting child pornography. NIZZA uploaded illicit files to undercover investigators of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Task Force and the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department Internet Crime Unit. In this case, the child pornography contained images and videos of pre-pubescent children engaged in sexual acts.

Prosecutor Molinelli states that these charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Ridgewood Police Department for their assistance with the investigation and arrest and the following Police Departments who provided additional support in the form of Computer Crimes Task Force personnel:

Lyndhurst Police Department
Ridgewood Police Department
Washington Township Police Department

Grand jury investigating Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.)

A federal grand jury in Miami is investigating Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), examining his role in advocating for the business interests of a wealthy donor and friend, according to three people aware of the probe.

Menendez has intervened in matters affecting the financial interests of Florida ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen, seeking to apply pressure on the Dominican government to honor a contract with Melgen’s port-security company, documents and interviews show. Also, Menendez’s office has acknowledged he interceded with federal health-care officials after they said that Melgen had overbilled the U.S. government for care at his clinic. (Washington Post)

The Ridgewood Concert Band reminds you to beware of the “ides of March “

The Ridgewood Concert Band reminds you to beware of the “ides of March “

Dr. Chris Wilhjelm, community leaders, and musicians founded the Ridgewood Concert Band (RCB) in 1983 with the idea of providing high quality performing venues for the many accomplished wind and percussion players living in the New York Metropolitan area. The RCB is proud that audiences containing large numbers of students, adults, and seniors regularly attend the concerts.

Through the years, consistently high level performances have led to the production of two commercially released CDs, performances on the East coast, and peer recognition through the awarding of the be edited John Philip Sousa Foundation’s coveted Sudler Silver Scroll Award in 1996.

The RCB performs an annual series of concerts presenting the very finest in wind band literature for capacity audiences. Ranging from light classics and famous marches, to cutting edge compositions by today’s brilliant composers, the band’s programming has drawn critical attention for its variety and depth. Originally launched as the Ridgewood Community Concert Band, an early review praising the band’s fine performance proclaimed this is no “Community” band. The Board of Directors decided to incorporate as The Ridgewood Concert Band.
