Ridgewood NJ, an adult female babysitter and her young charge were injured when the sitter’s leg fell through a floorboard at a single family home in the 400 block of Prospect Street, Ridgewood early Friday afternoon, 02/18. Ridgewood Police, Ridgewood Fire Department, and Ridgewood EMS personnel and vehicles rushed to aid the two (2) victims. Arriving fire department personnel observed evidence of an active construction site with no permits visible. A Village of Ridgewood building inspector was summoned as a result of the Fire Department’s observation.

According to investigators, the hardwood floors in the home were being replaced and a piece of subfloor that was weak due to a knot in the wood gave out when the sitter stepped on it.
An ambulance transported the injured babysitter to The Valley Hospital. The child’s father refused additional medical aid based upon the results of an on site evaluation by EMTs. UPDATE: A Village of Ridgewood Building Department official inspected the location and determined that no permit was required for the work being performed.
